Gelatin – some people love it, some can’t even stand the sight of it. However, if you belong to the first group, we have good news for you. Gelatin actually has many health benefits and also contributes to our beauty. Besides its use in preparing desserts, cakes, or aspics, therefore feel free to use it for health and beauty as well.

1. For bones and joints

The beneficial effects of gelatin on bones and joints may already be well known to you, so don’t forget this fact. You should include it in your diet especially if you suffer from aching joints, osteoporosis, or are recovering from a fracture. Phosphorus, copper, and proteins contained in this colorless powder affect bone tissue density, thereby serving as an excellent prevention against osteoporosis. Gelatin also contains the substance chondroitin, thanks to which you can get rid of joint inflammation, and we must not forget collagen, which in turn will strengthen the health of your cartilage, give it elasticity, and increase overall joint mobility.

2. For better blood clotting

Do you suffer from a blood clotting disorder? Focus on consuming foods containing gelatin.

3. Speeds up wound healing

Glycine is an amino acid that, among other processes, is responsible for healing inflammations and wounds and helps effectively fight infections. It is also contained in quality gelatin, which is another reason we should consume it. Thanks to collagen, gelatin also affects the quality and elasticity of the skin.

4. Helps with weight loss

Gelatin improves metabolism and reduces appetite, which helps support weight loss. It maintains a feeling of satiety. Since it also improves intestinal transit and absorbs water, it contributes to better digestion. It contains a high amount of protein and also helps with detoxifying the body.

5. For beautiful hair

If you want beautiful shiny hair, prepare this mask: Pour water over the gelatin and let it swell. Heat it on the stove until it fully dissolves. Apply the still-warm (not hot) gelatin to the hair and leave it on until it starts to harden. Then rinse the hair thoroughly with clean water. Gelatin will strengthen and nourish the hair and prevent frizz.

6. Air freshener and moth repellent 2 in 1

Moths will by far avoid your wardrobe if you place this homemade gelatin preparation with lavender scent inside. A bonus will be a pleasant fragrance.

Procedure:

  • Pour 2 glasses of water into a container and add 2 tablespoons of salt.
  • Add 2 packets of powdered gelatin and 25 – 30 drops of lavender oil.
  • Prepare the gelatin according to the instructions on the package and fill into smaller cups.
  • Let it solidify and place it where this pesky insect bothers you.

7. For pore cleansing and against acne

If you are troubled by blackheads or acne, prepare this face mask: Dissolve the gelatin in water and add a few drops of tea tree oil. Apply it to problematic areas of the face and let it harden. Then remove and wash with warm water. Gelatin generally benefits the skin and tea tree oil works deep in the pores. It prevents inflammation formation and blocks the growth of harmful bacteria in blackheads.

BONUS – Recipes with gelatin for health

Natural nutrition for joints

We need:

  • 200 g honey
  • 4 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 8 tbsp flax seeds
  • 3 tbsp raisins
  • 20 g clear gelatin

Procedure:

  • Grind all the seeds together with the raisins.
  • Put the honey into a separate bowl, sprinkle with powdered gelatin and mix thoroughly.
  • Add the seed-raisins mixture, mix to a smooth consistency and transfer to a clean sealable container.
  • Take 1 teaspoon 2 times a day before meals (preferably morning and evening).

Currant jelly (candies) for immunity – SUGAR-FREE

We need:

  • 1 ½ cups fruit or vegetable juice (the juice determines not only the taste but also the color of our candies – e.g. kiwi, green grapes, cabbage – green candies; carrot, orange, mango – orange)
  • 4 tablespoons gelatin
  • 2-4 tablespoons honey (or stevia)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • We can use 1 tablespoon of healthy powdered ingredients (e.g. Vitamin C, magnesium)

Procedure:

  • Remove the stems from the currants, juice them and pour into a saucepan.
  • Sprinkle with powdered gelatin.
  • Wait until the gelatin soaks into the liquid. Then stir the mixture.

Start heating the juice over low heat – but be careful that the juice does not start to boil, because you would lose valuable vitamins. When the gelatin dissolves, stir in the other ingredients – honey, vitamins, and extracts (if you decide to add them).

Pour the prepared gelatin into a clean jar or molds and let cool for about 2-3 hours. You can consume it with a spoon or cut the gelatin into small candies. With proper storage (in an airtight container) it will last up to 3 weeks.

Currants contain a number of beneficial substances. In one berry there are approximately 2 milligrams of vitamin C, so just 35 – 40 currants are enough to cover the daily requirement. In addition, they are rich in vitamin A, niacin, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, and manganese. They strengthen the immune system, stimulate cellular metabolism, support muscle function, heart function, protect mucous membranes, act against stress, and improve mood. They are a fantastic prevention against viral and bacterial infections.
