When little Winter Josephine was born, everyone who saw her said, “She looks so grumpy,” she was a frowning newborn. Her mother Hollie Wallis wondered what her little girl must be thinking. “It was so nice in there. Put me back!” Her grumpy face, however, made people smile at the little girl. Especially her mother, who was overdue and had to wait a little longer for little Josephine.
The pregnancy with Winter was a pleasant surprise
Hollie Wallis could hardly believe her eyes when she got a positive pregnancy test. It was mainly because, in the previous year, she had undergone several surgeries in which a large part of her uterus was removed. So she did not expect to become pregnant again. She had two boys from a previous relationship. Her husband, however, had no children, so she was thrilled by the news. She spent $50 on pregnancy tests just to be sure. All of them were positive.
At first everything went completely smoothly and the pregnancy was no different from the previous ones
That was until she went to the doctor for an ultrasound, where the doctor could not find any amniotic fluid. It was very worrying, because this protective fluid serves as a cushion for the growing fetus. Hollie was very frightened.
She was diagnosed with oligohydramnios, which is a condition in which there is a low level of amniotic fluid during pregnancy. Fortunately, on the second ultrasound they already detected pockets of fluid and the baby on the monitor looked healthy. She was due to see the doctor again on Monday. However, when she woke up on Sunday morning she had a strange feeling that something was wrong, and so she decided to go to the hospital.
Hollie trusted her maternal instinct, because it was truly an extraordinary situation. She had to undergo an immediate cesarean section, without having the chance to speak with her husband. Hollie signed the necessary documents and they took her to the operating room. Of course she was informed about the possible risks associated with undergoing a cesarean section. Just imagine how frightened she must have been. It was her first experience with this type of birth.
Winter’s birth was a miracle
Her husband waited outside and had no idea that she was even undergoing surgery at that time. Hollie silently hoped that her little one would be okay. Despite everything, little Josephine was fine. She was very small for a baby born past her due date, but she was healthy.
Babies born with such a low amount of amniotic fluid are at risk of health problems after birth, even with physiotherapy. Some babies do not survive, while others may suffer from underdeveloped lungs. But Winter survived! She was tough, just like her facial expression.
Winter survived and in the following days her condition improved
Hollie posted photos of Winter on Facebook. She wanted to photograph her because she always looks so grumpy. Many people were happy about her pictures because their days were at least a little cheerier. She also posted the photos on Instagram.
