Oregano has accompanied humanity for centuries and has been used not only as a spice in the kitchen, but also as a fairly versatile medicinal herb.
Oregano as a natural wonder
Oregano contains many substances, for example fiber, iron, magnesium, folic acid, vitamins (K, E, A and C) and also carotenoids. It has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant effects.
A remarkable effect of oregano, already mentioned above, is its antioxidant action. This herb is among plants that neutralize so-called free radicals unusually quickly.
Oregano also has a beneficial effect, for example, on
- cough
- asthma
- bronchitis
- headaches
- menstrual pain, and
- heartburn.
How to use oregano
If you are interested in using oregano as an aid in improving health, we will advise you on the available methods.
You can of course consume oregano in its fresh form. However, you will often encounter not only its dried form, but also tablets, essential oil or various dietary supplements that also contain it.
If you want to prepare a homemade oregano emulsion intended for treating skin problems, mix oregano essential oil with another essential oil, preferably in a 1:1 ratio. You can then apply this emulsion to the affected areas twice a day.
Medicinal tea
To prepare a tea to alleviate respiratory difficulties, cough and a number of other adverse symptoms, prepare 2 to 3 cups of water, 4 to 6 dried oregano leaves (Origanum vulgare), honey, and a slice of lemon.
Bring the water in a small pot to a boil and then remove it from the heat. Add the oregano leaves and let them steep for approximately 5 minutes. Remove the leaves and add a little honey and a slice of lemon to taste. This infusion should be served warm. The prescribed amount corresponds roughly to a daily dose of tea.
Interestingly, this tea will also calm you and help you achieve mental balance.
