The editorial team of Mumsy from London received a letter from a Polish doctor who was outraged by one of the articles published on this portal on the subject of vaccines. Here is its content:
Hello! I just wanted to thank you in a few words for the article about vaccines. Few people have the courage to speak the truth openly during a large anti-vaccination campaign.
I am a pediatrician. I stopped commenting on this topic on the internet some time ago because I achieved nothing by it. People no longer listen to doctors. They insult us and suspect us of cooperating with pharmaceutical corporations. I tolerated parents of unvaccinated children in my practice for over 2 years until Friday 21.03.2014, when two moms with two daughters sat in the waiting room of my clinic – two-year-old Saša (the mother decided not to vaccinate her immediately after birth) and three-week-old Zuzka (she had received vaccinations against tuberculosis and hepatitis B – standard during the early period after birth).
Saša had a severe cough, the mother came to get sick leave for her care and because she was in a great hurry, she did not make an appointment during the office hours for the sick, but came without an appointment and sat in the waiting room. Saša was visiting my practice for the first time. Eleven days later Zuzka was lying in the hospital with acute respiratory failure and whooping cough, a disease she had not yet been vaccinated against and which Saša had given her in my waiting room.
For Saša it was an ordinary, albeit severe cough; for the newborn it was a close encounter with death. From that time on I have been gradually removing from my patient database those whose parents decided not to vaccinate. I invite them for a discussion, try one last time to persuade them to change their decision, and then encourage them to change doctors. The decision about not vaccinating ultimately belongs to the parents, but they have no idea that their sick child is a walking killer of newborns, children on long-term immunosuppressive medications, those born with insufficient immunity, and many others. All those children sit in my waiting room. Their life is more important than what someone read on the internet or heard from a friend.
I am glad that reasonable opinions can still be found on the internet and I hope that this crazy trend of not vaccinating will pass with as few fatal victims as possible. Regards
