When I was a small child, I used to get ear infections quite often. They were terribly painful and unpleasant.

My parents were afraid they’d have to puncture my eardrums and insert tubes into them to make it easier for the pus to drain. Fortunately, my grandmother showed my parents a great trick.

Necessary supplies

This is a very simple way to get rid of an ear infection fairly quickly.

The only thing you’ll need is:

  • one cotton sock
  • 1/2 cup of sea salt.

However, use sea salt, not ordinary table salt. It gives much better results. Himalayan pink salt also works.

Procedure

To start, pour the salt into the sock and close it securely – either with a knot at the top of the sock or using a clip or elastic band.

Then heat a pan over low heat, preferably a steel one, not Teflon. If you overheated Teflon, it could begin to release dangerous chemicals.

Next, place the sock filled with salt on the pan and heat it for about 5 minutes. Move and turn the sock on the pan so it heats evenly.

When the salt sock is evenly heated, pick it up and test whether it is too hot and burns the skin. If so, let it cool down a bit to a temperature that doesn’t burn.

Then take the sock and apply it to the ear. If your child has the infection, place their head on the sock as if it were a small pillow. The remedy works equally well for children and adults.

How it works

The heat from the sock helps relieve the pain. The salt, on the other hand, helps draw out wax and pus from the ear that cause the pain.

In addition, salt naturally draws moisture out of the air, which is key for the survival of bacteria.

Use the sock as often as you need. When it starts to look dirty or loses its color, remove the salt, wash it, dry it, and you can use it again.

Conclusion
This remedy is a cheap, natural, and effective way to rid yourself or your child of an ear infection that causes unpleasant pain.

If the condition does not improve within a few hours or, at most, a few days, then of course you should seek professional medical help.
