The thyroid is an unpaired organ and an endocrine gland located on the neck in the middle of the larynx. It consists of two lobes and is responsible for producing iodine-containing thyroid hormones that are important for the body’s metabolism.
The thyroid
If these hormones are insufficient, hypothyroidism occurs; the patient suffers from swelling, fatigue, malaise, and memory impairment. If the thyroid is no longer able to produce any thyroid hormones, a person will die.
All fundamental biological processes in the human body, i.e. the growth and development of tissues, depend on the proper functioning of the thyroid.
The thyroid also has nerve centers located in the neck. These accumulations of nerve cells control the gland and act together with it, despite being located outside it. If a person suffers severe stress, the loss of a loved one, a difficult divorce, a serious shock, etc., the nerve centers that control thyroid function will speed up their activity. The body is then subjected to increased strain. It responds by increasing hormone production. And most often immediately, literally within a few hours, hyperthyroidism occurs.
Hyperthyroidism
This condition manifests as a rapid heartbeat, nervousness, increased sweating, weight loss and hair loss. Diagnosis is possible from blood tests for TSH, free thyroxine T4 and free triiodothyronine T3.
However, we also have good news: the thyroid is capable of regeneration and restoring tissues.
To start the regeneration process, you must first remove the increased strain on the body. For this we will use an integrated approach.
Treatment
With an increase in hormone production, a rapid pulse and anxiety, doctors usually prescribe antithyroid drugs. But these drugs reduce thyroid hormone production everywhere, yet they cannot eliminate the cause of the disease, meaning they do not affect the nerve centers. Therefore it is necessary to treat the disease itself along with taking medication. Try to reduce the excessive load on the thyroid to the peripheral nervous system. This tactic will allow you to avoid surgery.
How do you activate the thyroid to begin regeneration?
1. To activate the thyroid, it is necessary to combine iodized salt with foods high in selenium, for example
- a few nuts
- sunflower seeds
- fish (salmon, sole, sardines, plaice)
- seafood (shrimp, oysters, mussels, scallops and other bivalves)
- meat (beef, liver, mutton, pork)
- poultry (chicken, turkey)
- eggs (up to 3 per day)
- mushrooms (mushrooms, fungi)
- sprouted grains and legumes (wheat germ, barley, brown rice, oats)
- vegetables (artichokes, arugula, asparagus, avocado, bean sprouts, young beet leaves, broccoli, bergamot, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, green onion, corn, cucumbers)
- fruits (any wild berries and lemons)
2. Conversely, avoid the following products
- dairy products (at least 20 days);
- sugar and artificial sweeteners;
- grains
- beer
3. Do not follow any dietary restrictions, for example
- low-calorie diet
- low-fat diet
- low-carb diet
- products containing so-called goitrogens (allowed no more than 6–8 times a week and prepared only by steaming)
4. Do physical activity at least one hour a day, for example:
- walking
- cycling
- swimming
- hiking
5. Do more strenuous exercise up to three times a week, such as
- strength training
- regular workouts without special trainers
