A bowl of fresh water in a hidden spot in the garden, where a usual water source is generally far away, will help keep wild animals alive. Birds will use the bowl in the garden, as will hedgehogs and squirrels.
Water for wild animals
“It’s important to consistently change the water, place the bowl in a shady spot and wash the bowl once a week. It’s great if there are no interruptions in refilling the water,” says Petr Stýblo of ČSOP.
The ideal place for this bowl is a spot where a cat cannot approach unnoticed, it should be in the shade and sufficiently far from the noise that deters animals.
A small bowl of water can save many animals in the wild around us.
“I would really emphasize this help right in the areas of houses and apartments. It is important to refill it every day. Animals will prefer a bowl of water to dangerous pools, ponds or water tanks.”
The very long-term drought across the entire area is causing animals to be thirsty, and the drought is expected to persist.
The drought is already having a negative impact on some species of wildlife.
This year experts observed extremely low numbers of frogs, and the same fate affected many other amphibians, including protected species.
An exceptionally extreme decline was also recorded for blackbirds.
“How serious a problem this is will be determined by experts during the spring count.”
