Nail-biting is one of the very widespread bad habits among people. If we see in a person that this bad habit controls them, we usually assume it is due to a high level of stress. But that’s only a general assumption and such assumptions are often wrong. How is it actually?

Nail-biting

Stress often has a big influence on nail-biting, that is true, but to a greater extent it is a personality trait.
Nail-biting is often seen as socially unacceptable and people strongly condemn it. Many people who suffer from this bad habit bite their nails even in public, and do so without realizing it.

Health risk

There are cases when nail-biting can be a truly very dangerous habit. Due to biting the nails and the surrounding cuticle, open wounds are formed through which a lot of dirt can enter the body and an infection can develop.

Expert study

A professional scientific study confirms that up to 30% of the population suffer from this bad habit. The vast majority are even women.
This habit is often the result of anxiety and in women it even subsequently deepens this anxiety because it lowers women’s self-confidence.

But getting rid of this bad habit is very difficult. Scientists confirm that nail-biting brings soothing relief to the people affected.

We can pick up nail-biting from people around us, where we subconsciously imitate nail-biting, but we can also inherit this bad habit.

A specialized psychiatrist created a study that confirms that people who suffer from this habit try very hard to be perfect. People turn to biting when they feel anxious and frustrated because of their shortcomings.
So if you see someone who bites their nails, it probably means that they are dealing with some anxiety and problems in their life that frustrate them.
It is a manifestation of a certain panic about a particular situation that has arisen around this person.
