This terrifying thing looks like a movie prop; surprisingly, it can be a very rare species of fungus – Archer’s Stinkhorn. This very rare fungus will even baffle your friends who know about mushrooms! It grows straight out of an egg and eats flies!
As written on the largest internet encyclopedia, wikipedia.org, the leathery egg, round or ovoid in shape, measures 2.5 to 6 cm and is almost half buried in the ground. It emerges from the egg in the form of octopus-like arms 4 to 15 cm long.
Strange plant
The arms, numbering four to eight, are fragile, bent downwards and spread evenly around the egg. Their color is red with black spots. The tendrils are covered with slime with a rotten smell that attracts insects which spread the spores around.
They look as if they could harm eggs and other animals; in Asia they are considered a delicacy.
The stinkhorn, possibly introduced from far away, originates from Australia and Tasmania, from where it was transported to Europe during World War I. In 1914 its occurrence was documented in France and in what was then Czechoslovakia in 1963.
