It happens that we indulge and have a heavy dinner at night. In such a case our morning aftertaste should not be surprising: poorly digested food during the night can cause an unpleasant taste in the mouth in the morning.
But what if unpleasant tastes in your mouth appear regularly and you eat properly? It’s worth checking whether you don’t have some specific condition that causes this problem. For example, a constantly appearing sweetish taste speaks of an increased blood sugar level and may be an early symptom of diabetes!
Unpleasant taste in the mouth
Bitter taste
Bitterness in the mouth points to a buildup of bile in the body. It means the liver cannot process it fast enough; it may be cholecystitis – inflammation – and there may also be problems with the bile ducts. What to do? Drink as much water as possible, remove all fatty, fried, marinated, and overly salty foods from your diet.
If the bitter taste in your mouth remains even after these changes, consult a doctor immediately. The cause of a bitter taste in the mouth can also be „lazy intestines“: a condition in which food is digested slowly and therefore stagnates in the body. What to do? Eat as much fresh vegetables and fruit as possible.
You can also drink herbal teas that support peristalsis. Use horsetail, calendula, or mint. And one more cause – frequent consumption of alcoholic beverages. This clogs up the poor liver!
What to do? Cut out alcoholic drinks and also do a liver detox. Don’t forget your diet and reduce the intake of fatty and sweet foods.
Hydrogen sulfide taste
Perhaps the worst taste that exists in the world! If it happens that you have a hydrogen sulfide taste in your mouth in the mornings, it means that your stomach produces an insufficient amount of gastric juice. This happens with gastritis or low acidity.
What to do? To strengthen the secretion of gastric juices, you should eat more spicy and fried foods. In any case, however, you must not overeat, especially at night! If you feel you have problems with digestion, consult your doctor: he can prescribe special medications that will help you with this unpleasantness.
Salty taste
Interesting fact: there is a lot of sodium chloride – salt – in our saliva. When the body lacks water, all fluids thicken including saliva. This creates that strange salty taste in the mouth! The salt taste in the mouth will disappear if you drink at least 2 liters of water a day.
This problem is mainly encountered by people addicted to alcohol. Beer and wine remove moisture from the body, which is why you are so thirsty the next day after drinking alcoholic beverages!
Sweet taste
A sweet taste in the mouth, especially in the morning, is a very unpleasant sign. It means you have elevated blood sugar! You can develop diabetes at any time, especially if your diet is overloaded with carbohydrates … If this taste appears in your mouth regularly you should visit a doctor. We recommend that you be examined by an endocrinologist and have tests done! Diabetes is not something to play with. If you ignore all early signs, you may pay not only with your health but with your life …
Sour taste
If you have a sour taste in your mouth it is a sign of increased stomach acidity. If hydrochloric acid, which is produced in the stomach for digestion, is produced in large amounts, it causes a sour taste in the mouth.
Don’t eat a lot of fatty, pungent, or sweet food! Of course, an examination by a specialist won’t hurt either. The doctor will prescribe you medications to reduce acidity. A sour taste in the mouth can also be the result of pancreatic dysfunction, for example after an overly luxurious feast.
Metallic taste
A metallic taste in the mouth points to periodontitis or other oral cavity diseases. These strange sensations can also occur after poisoning by heavy metals, for example mercury, arsenic, or lead. A similar taste can also appear as a side effect of some medications, such as metronidazole.
If you often have an unpleasant feeling in your mouth after eating different kinds of fruit, rinse your mouth with baking soda. You will get rid of unpleasant tastes and your enamel will not suffer so much!
Smoking is a reason to visit the dentist more often. If you smoke, an unpleasant taste may appear due to the presence of a large number of microbes in the mouth.
It’s worth taking care of your health in small things so you don’t become seriously ill later!
