At the end of September last year a proposal to amend the law concerning subsidies for meals in preschool and school facilities was submitted to the National Council of the Slovak Republic. The amendment is valid for “preschoolers” from January of this year and for children attending elementary schools the law came into force from September 2019.
The proposal from the ranks of Smer SD (Blaha, Tomáš, Fico, Kaliňák, Kamenický, Vážny) provides children with a subsidy for meals in the amount of €1.20 / day in the case that the child “participated in educational activities in kindergarten or lessons in elementary school and took a meal “. The total sum of subsidies for “free lunches” should represent an amount of 80 to 120 million euros.
Children have free lunches, but they are hungry!
A few days ago a shocking picture of a “free lunch” from an elementary school in Holíč appeared on the Facebook page Do not feed us with waste. The sight of the portion for a growing child was heartbreaking. “This is how you can fool the brains of pensioners, reality = nothing is free = and who will pay for it? Of course we the people, and who gets fed, the State !!! Aren’t you ashamed to leave the kids hungry,” reads the post. To date the post has approximately 1400 reactions, 626 comments and 777 shares.
