Several hundred more people are at risk.

The U.S. Department of Health announced that the number of deaths linked to smoking electronic cigarettes has reached seven. The most recent victim of the lung disease was a resident of Tulare County in California. Authorities in New York decided to ban electronic cigarettes.

It’s the second death in California.

Similar cases have been reported in Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota and Oregon. At least 380 people are already sick in 36 states and the Virgin Islands.

The nature of this illness is not yet clear. At least several victims had other serious illnesses. It is therefore not known whether e-cigarettes are directly to blame for the deaths, or whether they only worsen patients’ conditions. At the same time, doctors do not link the deaths to any specific brand.

Authorities recommend that citizens give up e-cigarettes. The state of New York went even further – it introduced a ban.
