This is probably the craziest study I have seen this year. Its consequences may be far-reaching beyond what we can imagine.

Currently people with high cholesterol take daily medications to lower it, which themselves pose significant health risks.

The most common are drugs from the statin group. They have many serious side effects, for example they cause muscle weakness, pain and can also seriously damage the brain.

Recently scientists made a discovery that could completely solve the problem of high cholesterol and literally wipe off the face of the earth the huge business of cholesterol-lowering drugs.

Brazil (para) nuts and cholesterol.

In the mentioned study the scientists set out to investigate what effect consuming Brazil nuts would have on blood cholesterol levels.

Test volunteers were given doses of 0, 5, 20 and 50 grams of Brazil nuts (approximately 0, 1, 4 and 10 nuts) and then their bad LDL and good HDL cholesterol levels were measured at various time intervals.

The results directly shocked them.

Levels of bad cholesterol began to decrease and good cholesterol to increase already 9 hours after consumption. And the most amazing thing was that a single dose of Brazil nuts was enough for this!

By comparison, it takes drugs about 4 days before cholesterol values in the blood begin to change and they must be taken every day.

Significant adjustments in levels occurred already at a dose of 20 grams, that is approximately 4 to 6 Brazil nuts. The more detailed development is shown in the following graphs from the study:

Graph 1 – Bad LDL cholesterol

Graph 2 – Good HDL cholesterol

If you look more closely at the mentioned graphs, they reveal one more very important finding. Namely that cholesterol levels not only adjusted after 9 to 24 hours, but remained so for a full 30 days.

In other words: Instead of taking potentially dangerous cholesterol-lowering drugs every day, it is enough to consume 20 to 50 grams of Brazil nuts once a month and you are done with the problem.

Why para nuts owe their effect on cholesterol.

Scientists assume that para nuts owe their effect on lowering bad and raising good cholesterol primarily to their high selenium content.

Selenium is part of roughly 20 enzymes in the body that have strong antioxidant effects. It can protect the body from degenerative diseases such as diabetes or lateral sclerosis.

It is also very important for the proper function of the immune system, the cardiovascular system (especially protection against ischemic heart disease) and also for preventing lipid oxidation.

In this study it was shown that another property of selenium is its protective effect on cholesterol.

A great advantage of Brazil nuts is that they also contain large amounts of other important nutrients such as:

  • unsaturated fatty acids
  • proteins
  • fiber
  • minerals magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, zinc, iron, potassium and copper
  • vitamins E and B6

Conclusion:

As we stated at the beginning, this is probably the most important discovery of the year that can save you from taking dangerous cholesterol-lowering drugs.

If it does not concern you directly, but you have family members or friends who take medication for cholesterol, be sure to share this article with them!

There is no doubt they will be grateful to you for it for the rest of their lives.
