If you listen to the cosmetic industry, you may believe the claim that wrinkles are a natural part of aging. In fact, you have much more control over your appearance than you might think.
You do not have to accept wrinkles around the eyes, on the forehead, or the neck. Nor do you have to accept dark circles under the eyes or hyperpigmentation.
Today we’ll reveal how to regain smooth, clear skin. First, though, let’s say a little more about the causes of wrinkles.
Causes of wrinkles and fine lines
Wrinkles appear when your skin dries out and loses some of its substance.
When the skin dries out, the metabolism of skin cells slows down, because all cells need moisture to function properly.
With a slow metabolism, the skin doesn’t produce enough moisture, old cells are not replaced by new ones and the cells wear out instead. There is also no renewal of collagen and elastin, which make the skin firm.
The result is wrinkles, especially on the face and neck. At the same time, fine lines form first around the eyes because the skin there is thinner than in other areas and also moves more.
Every time you smile, frown or close your eyes — even during sleep — the skin around your eyes is put into motion. In addition, exposure of the face and neck to sunlight and wind dries them out faster.
The skin on the forehead, under the eyes and around the neck also forms pronounced lines for the same reason. It is somewhat thicker than the skin around the eyes, but not by much. It also moves more and is exposed to the elements.
Other causes of wrinkles include:
- poor sleep and a bad diet weaken your skin
- a high amount of sugar in the diet accelerates wrinkle formation
- smoking is another strong factor in skin aging and loss of tone or discoloration
- alcohol consumption dehydrates the body and especially the skin
- polluted environments cause your skin to use up all antioxidants, such as vitamin E, which is responsible
- for keeping the skin healthy and radiant
How to get rid of wrinkles on the face and neck
To get rid of wrinkles and prevent their further formation we recommend following these rules:
1. Watch the sugar in your diet
Eliminate sugar from your diet, especially refined sugar and processed foods that contain it in large amounts.
Sugar destroys collagen and weakens the skin.
2. Eat natural foods of organic quality
Fruits and vegetables provide the body with important vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Also make sure you consume enough protein.
If you don’t eat meat, make sure your vegetarian diet is balanced and contains all the essential amino acids you need.
Nuts are very suitable for this because they are rich in protein as well as vitamins and minerals. Your skin needs protein to produce collagen and elastin.
3. Eat chocolate
We don’t mean just any chocolate, but dark chocolate (with low sugar content and a high proportion of cocoa solids).
Cocoa contains two substances — epicatechin and catechin — that protect the skin from the harmful effects of UV rays.
4. Exfoliate
Removing dead cells stimulates skin regeneration.
Use gentle and natural cosmetic products, preferably organic, instead of harmful chemicals.
5. Regularly moisturize the skin
As in the previous case, prefer organic moisturizing creams.
Avoid cosmetics that contain parabens, phthalates and petroleum derivatives.
Such cosmetics tend to form an impermeable chemical coating on the skin that unnecessarily stresses and suffocates it.
6. Apply vitamin C topically
Your skin needs vitamin C to produce collagen and maintain its structure.
Studies have shown that topically applied vitamin C reduces fine wrinkles. Study participants who applied vitamin C topically reported up to 84% higher satisfaction than the control group that did not apply it.
Vitamin C also protects against harmful UV rays and prevents skin damage.
Many women also report that the visibility of wrinkles on their neck and face decreased when they slept more on their backs than on their stomachs.
Several recommended masks for the neck and face
Finally, we’ll reveal a few masks that are recommended for reducing wrinkles on the neck and face.
1. Avocado mask. Mash one avocado (without the pit) into a paste and apply the mask to the neck and face for 10 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water at the end.
2. Cucumber mask. Blend cucumber with plain yogurt in a 1:1 ratio. Gently spread the mask over the skin of the face and neck, leave it on for 15 minutes and then rinse it off with lukewarm water.
3. Egg mask. Mix 1 egg white with 1 teaspoon of fresh orange juice and 1 teaspoon of turmeric.
Apply the mask to the skin for 10 minutes, then rinse it off with lukewarm water. It will supply your skin with potassium and magnesium, hydrate it, and the turmeric will suppress inflammation and soothe the skin.
4. Honey and plain yogurt mask. This mask hydrates the skin, cleans it of bacteria, and gives it a light exfoliation.
Mix equal parts honey and yogurt and apply the mixture to the neck and face for 10 minutes. Finally, wash the skin thoroughly with lukewarm water.
5. Coconut oil. It is an excellent moisturizer and skin brightener. Simply apply coconut oil under and around the edges of the eyes using your fingertips.
Coconut oil is well absorbed into the skin; it should be fully absorbed after 10 minutes. You can wipe off any remainder with a paper towel.
