Consumption of flavored Coca-Cola soda is recommended in advertisements around the world mainly because of its original taste and refreshing note. But what do we really consume when we drink one can of this popular brand? You may not even realize it, but your body fights an incredible battle in the first 60 minutes after consuming the contents of a single can.
Coca-Cola is deliberately formulated so that the body can accept it at the limit of tolerance. Below you will find an exact list of the phases our body goes through after consuming this drink.
After 10 minutes
During the first 10 minutes, 10 teaspoons of sugar enter your body. That alone represents 100% of the recommended daily allowance of sugar and the only reason you don’t vomit from such an amount of sugar is that phosphoric acid, as another ingredient of Coca-Cola, masks this sweetness.
After 20 minutes
20 minutes after consumption your blood sugar level spikes and subsequently the liver, in response to the release of a large amount of insulin by the pancreas, begins converting this enormous amount of sugar into fat.
After 40 minutes
At this stage the absorption of caffeine is complete, your pupils dilate, blood pressure rises and the liver pumps more sugar into the bloodstream.
After 45 minutes
The body begins to increase production of dopamine, which stimulates the nerve receptors in the brain (a physiologically identical response to heroin).
Shortly after 60 minutes
Caffeine has diuretic properties that begin to take effect. The body loses magnesium, zinc and calcium, important substances that were supposed to go to the bones. The same goes for sodium, water and electrolytes.
Gradually you begin to feel quite irritable and drowsy. You have expelled the water that should have been used to produce important substances responsible for hydrating the body and building strong muscles and teeth.
Many are not aware of what Coca-Cola can do to our bodies. Its effects are not at all positive and, among other things, increase the risk of developing diabetes. Better pour yourself a glass of plain water and flavor it, for example, with lemon or mint.
