It happens that even with regular and high-quality washing of a garment you get an unpleasant smell similar to the smell of mold that appears in damp rooms or in cupboards.
This usually happens if you do not remove clothing from the washing machine immediately or when there is not enough sun for quick drying.
Of course, it is possible to wash again to get rid of the unpleasant odor, but we will almost always need additional cleaning agents.
Fortunately we can use not only store-bought chemical fabric conditioners, but also 100% natural sources that achieve a similar effect for less money.
And today we want to share with you 5 of the best natural solutions so that next time, when you have this problem, you will know exactly what to do.
1. Baking soda and vinegar
The combination of baking soda with white vinegar will help you not only get rid of unpleasant clothing odors, but also various contaminants and will also make the clothes soft.
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup baking soda (40 g)
- 1 cup white vinegar (250 ml)
Preparation:
Just take a deep container and mix the vinegar and baking soda in it.
How to apply:
Apply the resulting mixture to the clothing and let it work for 30 minutes.
Alternatively: you can add it to one of the washing machine compartments and run a regular wash cycle.
Rinse as usual and dry in a well-ventilated place.
2. Rice sachets
If there is mold in your wardrobes, rice sachets are an ideal way to rid your clothes of unpleasant smells. Rice perfectly absorbs moisture and prevents further spread of the fungus.
Ingredients:
- 5 tablespoons of rice (100 g)
- 6 drops of lavender oil
Method:
Fabric bags
Preparation:
Divide the rice into small bags and add the lavender essential oil.
How to apply:
Place the bags in the corners of the cupboard or hang them next to the clothes.
Change them regularly for new ones to keep the space free of mold, fungus and unpleasant odors.
3. Lemon juice and sea salt
If the detergent does not work and there is still an unpleasant odor on your favorite clothes, soak them in a mixture of lemon juice and sea salt. They will help remove dirt stains and at the same time neutralize the unpleasant smell of mold and sweat that has penetrated the clothing.
Ingredients:
- Juice of 2 lemons
- 3 tablespoons sea salt (30 g)
- 5 glasses of water (1250 ml)
Preparation:
Squeeze the juice from the lemons and mix it with the sea salt and water in one container.
How to apply:
Soak the clothes for 20 minutes in the resulting mixture and then rinse as usual.
4. Lavender infusion
If the laundry absorbs the “damp” and water smell after washing, try preparing a lavender infusion and enjoy the benefits of its scent.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of water (500 ml)
- 6 tablespoons lavender flowers (60 g)
Preparation:
Put the water on the stove and bring to a boil. Then add the lavender flowers.
Let simmer on low heat for 3 minutes and remove.
How to apply:
While the infusion is still warm, place the clothes next to or above it so they can absorb the lavender scent (steam).
Then hang them outside (fresh air) for several hours.
If you want, you can put containers with the hot infusion directly into the cupboard and leave them there for a few hours.
5. Apple cider vinegar and lemon
By combining the useful properties of apple cider vinegar and lemon juice you can obtain an excellent laundry agent. Its active ingredients free clothing from the unpleasant smell of mold, as well as from dirt (dust and sweat stains).
Ingredients:
Juice of 2 lemons
1 cup apple cider vinegar (250 ml)
Preparation:
Take a deep container and mix the apple cider vinegar with freshly squeezed lemon juice.
How to apply:
Pour the resulting mixture into one of the powder compartments in your washing machine and start a regular wash cycle.
If you want to wash by hand, pour the mixture into water and soak the clothes in it for 40 minutes.
Then wash them as usual and dry in the sun.
Then try one of the above tricks and forget about this problem forever.
And of course, you should check your wardrobes and washing machine for mold (and remove it if it really is there).
