Hygienists have so far not recorded any illnesses in people in the Czech Republic caused by the coronavirus. (ÚVZ) The Public Health Office reports this on its website.

Measures that must be followed

The risk of the disease spreading in Europe is slight, the chief hygienist of the Slovak Republic Ján Mikas says. He recommends that tourists traveling to affected areas get vaccinated against influenza at least two weeks before travel. Mikas also recommends avoiding local markets where fish and live animals are sold and avoiding contact with them. People should maintain strict personal hygiene and food hygiene.

Travelers should monitor their health for 14 days after arriving from an affected area for fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath,” Mikas says.

He also noted that in the case of clinical symptoms after returning from an affected country it is necessary to see a doctor. They should inform the doctor about their travel history.

The number of new cases is still increasing

China will close the 11-million city Wu-chan – the epicenter of the new coronavirus outbreak, which has so far killed 17 people and infected almost 600. The number of new cases in China is rising sharply. The source of the infection is believed to be a seafood market in the central Chinese city of Wu-chan. On Thursday, Beijing cancelled planned public celebrations of the Lunar New Year due to the spread of the new deadly coronavirus.

The virus, which causes symptoms similar to pneumonia, has already been reported in Japan, the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the United States.
