It is a type of vegetable that grows mainly in tropical and subtropical countries, where it has long been used in natural medicine due to its pronounced health effects.

In appearance it resembles a cucumber with bumps, however because of its often extremely bitter taste it is not a very popular food.

Today it is mostly cultivated in countries of South America and Asia. It is part of traditional medicine in Africa, India, China, but for example also in the southwestern states of the USA.

It is known by many names, such as bitter melon, bitter gourd or bitter pear. Its Latin name is Momordica charantia.

Bitter melon and pancreatic cancer

Dr. Frank Shallenberger specializes in rejuvenation therapies and natural medicine at a Nevada center for alternative anti-aging medicine.

He discovered a way to use this vegetable to help patients who have been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. According to Dr. Shallenberger, bitter melon effectively stops the growth of cancer cells.

He always recommends his patients trust nature and use natural substances that have the power to stop cancerous proliferation.

According to his latest findings, even a 5% solution of bitter melon juice can defeat pancreatic cancer.

The result achieved is also exceedingly encouraging.

It destroys 90 to 98% of cancer cells. And the remaining ones are then easily dealt with by the body’s own immune system.

The effects of this vegetable were also tested at the University of Colorado. The results showed a 64% reduction in the size of pancreatic tumors.

This research further confirms the benefits that bitter melon offers in treating diseases.

Besides cancer, it is also used for high blood pressure, asthma, skin infections, symptoms of diabetes and stomach problems.

What bitter melon contains

Bitter melon has an unusually high content of nutrients and fiber, yet few calories.

It is especially rich in vitamins B1, B2, B3, B9 (folic acid) and vitamin C. It also contains many minerals such as magnesium, manganese, zinc, iron and phosphorus.

It even has twice as much beta-carotene (a precursor of vitamin A) as broccoli, twice as much potassium as bananas and twice as much calcium as spinach.

Despite its extremely high nutrient content, it has unfortunately been forgotten in many areas because of its bitter taste.

Further health benefits of bitter melon
In addition to the diseases already mentioned, bitter melons have a much wider use in natural healing.

They are used for the following conditions:

1. Energy and vitality
Regular consumption of bitter melon or its juice increases energy, vitality and endurance during sports.

2. Support for pregnancy
It is an excellent source of folic acid.

Adequate intake of folic acid during pregnancy reduces the incidence of neural tube defects in newborns.

3. Lowers blood sugar
Bitter melon contains high amounts of polypeptide-P (a phytonutrient and plant insulin) which lowers blood sugar levels.

It also contains a unique component called charantin. This substance is known to increase glycogen synthesis and the utilization of sugar in muscles, the liver and adipose tissues.

The combination of polypeptide-P and charantin thus effectively reduces the amount of sugar in the blood, which is especially beneficial in type 2 diabetes.

4. Increases resistance to infections
Bitter melon juice boosts the body’s resistance to infections and greatly supports immunity.

5. Protection and regeneration of the liver
Bitter melon accelerates alcohol metabolism, thereby alleviating unpleasant post-alcohol states (commonly called a “hangover”).

In addition, it regenerates, cleanses and nourishes the liver.

This is especially beneficial for people with liver damage due to alcohol consumption or from other causes (for example hepatitis).

6. Support for digestion
Bitter melon stimulates intestinal peristalsis.

It also facilitates digestion throughout the digestive tract until food residues are expelled in the stool.

7. Pain relief
It relieves intestinal pain and further supports blood circulation.

8. Psoriasis

Regular consumption of bitter melon juice reduces psoriasis.

It also eliminates fungal infections, such as so-called athlete’s foot and other itchy skin conditions.
