Research shows that pineapple juice can suppress cough up to 5 times more effectively than a common pharmacy cough syrup.
This beneficial fruit contains the enzyme bromelain, which has strong anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects and a number of other beneficial substances.
Active compounds in pineapple
Did you know that just one glass of fresh pineapple juice contains up to 50% of the recommended daily dose of vitamin C?
Vitamin C also has strong antioxidant and infection-suppressing properties. In addition, it helps enzymes regulate metabolism and the conversion of energy in the body.
Another substance found in large amounts in pineapple juice is manganese, which plays an important role in the formation of connective tissue and bones.
It also functions in the absorption of calcium, the metabolism of carbohydrates and fats, and the regulation of nervous activity.
But let’s return to the enzyme bromelain.
It is important not only in the intestines, where it aids digestion, but it also plays a significant role later, after being absorbed into the bloodstream. There it seeks out inflammatory processes that it helps suppress.
It is therefore very suitable for diagnoses such as arthritis or rheumatism.
In Germany, bromelain was approved as a drug intended for inflammation and swelling of the nose and nasal cavities as a result of surgery or injury. It thus became one of the most popular dietary supplements.
How pineapple helps with persistent cough
In the case of a persistent cough, pineapple juice can naturally restore the health of your throat’s mucous membranes.
Of course, it should not be used as the sole remedy for very serious illnesses, such as pneumonia.
The main advantages of pineapple juice are that it is much cheaper than commonly sold cough syrups in pharmacies and it is also safer, as it does not contain any toxic additives.
All the substances it contains are purely natural and sufficient to cope with the illness.
The German magazine “Der Pharma Chemica” published a study in 2010 aimed at finding suitable supportive treatment for patients with tuberculosis.
Within this study, researchers discovered that a mixture of pineapple juice, cayenne pepper, salt and honey, given to patients daily, helped them dissolve and flush mucus from the lungs.
Moreover, a subsequent study produced even more unusual results!
Specifically, that extracts from raw pineapple are up to 5x more effective than common cough syrups from pharmacies.
Patients were able to recover 4.8 times faster and also showed a significant reduction in the occurrence of all symptoms accompanying cough.
The best pineapple juice is raw, freshly pressed.
Boxed juices are pasteurized and therefore many beneficial substances, including the most important bromelain, are degraded in them.
