It is remarkable to analyze why many of us believe that cow’s milk, whose primary function is to aid the development of calves, is also suitable for human beings.
We are the only animal species on the planet that consumes another animal’s milk. Moreover, the only species on the planet that continues to drink milk after the period of weaning. That would be unacceptable even for cows.
Consequences of industrial milk production
There are numerous studies proving that drinking milk leads to an increased rate of mortality and in fact makes bones more prone to fractures, not stronger.
One example could be an extensive study by researchers from Uppsala University in Sweden.
However, we are slowly beginning to realize that our habit of drinking milk is one of the main sources of many health problems and chronic diseases.
Let’s also not forget the fact that 80% of the destruction of the Amazon rainforest is a consequence of grazing animals raised for meat and dairy products. It is thus one of the main sources of environmental destruction and pollution.
When we support the dairy industry, we also support animal cruelty, suffering and pain. Cows are forcibly inseminated so they can produce milk, and when calves are born, they are forcibly taken from their mothers and sent straight to slaughter.
Animal agriculture is one of the greatest genocides of our time on the planet and shows how much we have lost our connection with all of creation.
Lactose intolerance
But let’s return to concerns about consumer health.
When we look at all other animals that do not consume another animal’s milk or do not consume it after the period of nursing, it is because in older age they no longer have the enzymes that would break down the sugar found in milk (lactose).
We are no different, which explains why in some ethnic populations in the world lactose intolerance is present in up to 90% of the population. A staggering 70% of the world’s population has lactose intolerance to some degree.
Nevertheless, some people may have evolved and adapted to tolerate cow’s milk fairly well. That is why this information may not apply to everyone. Overall, however, it certainly appears that we are doing something unnatural.
Science can explain it. People actually never had this enzyme, and so, in order to digest the sugar in milk — specifically cow’s milk — we had to develop the LCT gene, which is acquired by mutation.
This lactose gene allows us to process lactose in adulthood. Obviously we are not doing what is natural and in accordance with our bodies.
I first encountered this information from Katherine S. Pollard, PhD, at the University of California, San Francisco, in this lecture.
Metabolic acidosis
One of the most important things people are beginning to realize is that animal proteins can actually be harmful for human consumption and that proteins of plant origin are a much better choice.
This is discussed in more depth in an article (in English) on the Collective Evolution site: Plant proteins versus meat proteins: which are better for your body?
One of the things animal proteins do is trigger metabolic acidosis. This occurs when the body produces too much acid and becomes very acidic.
This can be caused by several factors, for example the absorption of casein found in animal proteins.
In cow’s milk, casein makes up almost 90% of the proteins. When the body experiences this kind of acidosis, it is forced to compensate by leaching calcium from the bones to help neutralize the increased acidity.
Over time, all of this has serious and harmful effects on bone health, as studies have shown.
We also dealt in detail with the harmful consequences of this protein, mainly its carcinogenic effects, in the article 12 000 doctors demand that cheeses carry the same cancer warnings as cigarettes.
We have been deceived
Science tells us that nations with a high incidence of hip fractures and osteoporosis also have a very high calcium intake.
Based on this correlation and the fact that animal proteins cause metabolic acidosis, leaching calcium from the bones — directly contradicting what the dairy industry would have us believe — it is easy to see that we have been misled.
Studies have also shown that animal proteins can “trigger” cancer.
This mainly comes from the study of American biochemist Dr. Colin Campbell, who specializes in the effect of nutrition on long-term health. He is the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University.
Scholars like Campbell are very important to the world because they are among the few who actually research and study nutrition and health, something our current medical industry largely ignores.
Isn’t it ironic that medical doctors learn nothing about nutrition? How can that make sense? It’s because modern medicine prioritizes profit over health.
One of the most comprehensive nutrition studies ever conducted became known as The China Study by Dr. Campbell (available in some online bookstores).
It has enormous implications for diet, weight loss and long-term health. In various ways that people are not prepared to accept, it also concerns animal proteins.
Conclusion
A major lesson is realizing that we have been misled by the food industries of various sectors. Products that were promoted as healthy, such as milk, are obviously not healthy and are the cause of many diseases.
Mass marketing and food propaganda, together with the pharmaceutical industry, have complete control over what we consider to be true in the area of health.
They even falsify science to refute the claims of real, impartial science that strongly challenges what these industries promote.
It is not easy to give up what we have been programmed to believe for so long, but ultimately critical thinking and independent research are far more valuable when it comes to food and nutrition.
They are better than relying on our medical associations and textbooks for information. So do not be afraid to think independently, do your own research and, with the help of experience, listen to your body.
