Hamemel virginský (Czech: vilín virginský) was used by American Indians to treat various skin problems. For treatment, mainly the bark, twigs and leaves of this medicinal tree are used.

Although medicine has advanced by leaps and bounds since ancient times, for many ailments witch hazel is simply irreplaceable.

Today we will reveal 7 ways you can use it to address different types of skin conditions.

1. Skin chafing
According to the Mayo Clinic in the USA, vilín virginský is very useful in treating skin chafing.

It is recommended to make a decoction, which is then simply applied with gauze, a cloth or a cotton pad directly to the chafed areas.

2. Hemorrhoids

Hamemel can reduce itching and burning of the skin thanks to its soothing effects. That makes it an excellent remedy for alleviating symptoms associated with hemorrhoids.

Similarly to the previous example, prepare a decoction and apply it with gauze or a cloth to the anal area for external hemorrhoids.

Witch hazel is very safe, so you can apply it to hemorrhoids even up to 6 times a day.

3. Acne
Acne is actually just an infection occurring under the skin. Vilín virginský has fairly strong antibacterial effects, which makes it an ideal remedy against acne.

Apply the witch hazel decoction directly to acne with cotton pads.

You can also combine it with a few drops of tea tree essential oil, coconut oil and apple cider vinegar for extra antibacterial power.

4. Psoriasis
The soothing properties of witch hazel on the skin are excellent for treating psoriasis.

Make a cream consisting of 50% witch hazel, 20% aloe vera gel, 20% glycerin and 10% argan oil. Then apply this cream to the acne.

It won’t take long before the redness, inflammation and psoriasis disappear.

5. Weeping eczema
For the treatment of weeping eczema use a mixture of witch hazel and green clay.

Make a mask from them and apply it to the eczema. Let it dry. This mixture helps dry out weeping eczema and suppress blister formation.

6. Varicose veins

Varicose veins and spider veins are not only unattractive but often quite painful. To reduce inflammation and address varicose veins use a cream you make as follows.

In a blender, blend 3 tablespoons of witch hazel, 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, 100 ml of aloe vera gel (or 0.5 dl of pure aloe vera juice) and 100 ml of shea butter.

Mix it for at least 30 seconds until you obtain a smooth homogeneous mixture. If it is too thin, add more shea butter. Then chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes.

Then rub this cream 1 to 2 times a day onto varicose veins until they disappear.

7. Itchy scalp
If you are often troubled by a dry or itchy scalp, Dr. Axe recommends adding a witch hazel decoction to your shampoo.

If you want a 100% natural solution, you can even make your own shampoo. The recipe is found in that article; just add an extra 50 ml of concentrated witch hazel decoction to it.

Conclusion
The best recipes are not always the new ones. Many health problems can be cured with older, but proven natural remedies.

One of those great and proven natural remedies is undoubtedly vilín virginský.
