Article content

The black balm used by the AMISH (a community of people in the USA living in a traditional way) is a natural remedy for various skin conditions made from several medicinal ingredients such as healthy oils, beeswax, or activated charcoal.

The main active ingredient is activated charcoal, which has long been used in folk medicine to treat skin problems. The skin heals much faster with it.

What the balm treats

Our balm can be used to treat minor skin injuries such as mild burns, itching and toxin removal.

It is also excellent for pimples, rashes or small boils because it draws pus up toward the surface and allows them to heal faster.

We would like to point out that the term “black balm” or “black ointment” is sometimes also used to refer to fairly aggressive cancer treatments, which can be quite dangerous (they cause burns or even holes in the skin).

The black balm we are talking about in this article is something completely different. It is absolutely safe, non-irritating and you can use it without worry.

But now let’s look at how to make our healing black balm.

Ingredients
You will need the following ingredients to prepare it:

  • castor oil (1 dcl) – anti-inflammatory, moisturizes the skin, reduces acne
  • coconut oil (1 dcl) – anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, antibacterial, antiseptic, stimulates faster skin healing
  • activated charcoal (3 teaspoons) – draws toxins from the body, reduces itching and stinging from insect bites
  • bentonite clay (3 teaspoons) – similar benefits to activated charcoal, ensures the balm is not too greasy
  • beeswax (2 teaspoons)
  • calendula essential oil (10 drops) – anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, antibacterial, stimulates faster skin healing

Preparation and use

1. Take a large bowl and mix the bentonite clay with the activated charcoal and oils in it.

2. Melt the beeswax in a double boiler. If you don’t have one, place a glass bowl over a pot of warm water and melt the wax in that glass bowl.

3. Mix the beeswax with the other ingredients, pour the mixture into a glass sealable container and let it cool in the refrigerator.

4. Make sure the balm is always airtight closed to keep its freshness and effectiveness. Also keep it out of sunlight. It should keep for several weeks this way.

Apply the balm as needed to problem areas on the skin until they heal.

Conclusion
The black healing balm is an amazing natural medicine that comes from the Amish community. They have tried to live a traditional way of life for centuries and have not abandoned their principles even today.

However, never confuse it with the controversial black ointment against cancer, which contains irritating ingredients such as bloodroot or echr… and can seriously damage the skin.
