Everyone is trying to get in shape, after all most of us don’t want a few rolls peeking out from under our t-shirts. But this is not only a problem of Christmas overeating that awaits us in a month. Studies show that we spend up to 90% of our time sitting, which is not efficient for our body. With this idea the chain of fitness and tennis centres – David Lloyd Club in London – started to work.

How did it all start?

They opened a restaurant called Run For Your Bun. You ask how this idea will help people move more? Quite simply, because here you don’t pay with money, but with a proper workout. So don’t be surprised if a bill lands on your table listing the activities with which you are to “pay”.

Under the supervision of trainers you burn about 150 calories for one average payment. They even ensure that you continue burning calories after you leave the restaurant. Each customer will therefore first think carefully about what to order in the restaurant. Of course, the restaurant’s aim is not to punish people, but rather to motivate them to a healthy lifestyle and to find a balance between calorie and energy intake and expenditure.

But you may have wondered, what does this restaurant live on then? You don’t pay for the food with money, but the restaurant must buy food and pay bills with money. The owners have of course arranged this to the highest degree, because it is funded by the mentioned chain of fitness and tennis centres. They have 98 clubs in the UK and another 13 across Europe. That represents 560 thousand paying members, thanks to whom this restaurant celebrated its first birthday.
