Clean hands are the cornerstone of success. Running water and soap are not always available, so it’s good to have a small bottle of disinfectant with you that is ready to use at any time. In a few minutes you can make an effective mixture at home that will deal with pathogens and is not more aggressive to the skin than store-bought products.
MINT ANTIBACTERIAL GEL WITH ADDED ALCOHOL
YOU NEED:
- 2/3 cup at least
- 60% pure alcohol
- 1/3 cup aloe vera gel
- 10 drops of peppermint essential oil
- a bowl, a funnel and a bottle.
Alcohol has antibacterial effects, but it is most effective at higher concentrations (60% – 80%). Peppermint essential oil not only has anti-inflammatory effects on the skin, but it soothes and cools the skin. You will therefore especially appreciate its effects in various inflammations and skin infections.
PREPARATION:
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and pour the resulting gel into a bottle using a funnel. Let them sit together in a dark place for 24 hours and then you can use the gel.
Homemade disinfectant according to the WHO
These recipes were created by the World Health Organization originally for African countries to protect against Ebola. They are now, however, also recommended in connection with the coronavirus.
- 830 ml ethanol (96%) or 750 ml isopropyl alcohol (Isopropanol, 99.8%). Isopropanol is relatively non-toxic and evaporates quickly. Therefore it is used as a solvent as well as a cleaning agent.
- 45 ml hydrogen peroxide (3%)
- 110 ml boiled water
- 15 ml glycerin (98%)
Pour all ingredients into a sealable container and mix well so they combine.
This quickly makes a disinfectant that you can use on dry hands.
Rub thoroughly into the skin, leave it on for at least 30 seconds.
Warning: The disinfectant is intended for external use only. Keep it out of reach of children. Avoid direct contact with eyes and do not keep it near fire or heat sources.
