Neurosurgeons, or rather scientists who study brain activity, are sounding the alarm. Today’s population is all too careless about the basics.

Ladies, prepare for bed

The complexity of brain function in women requires adequate rest. Jim Horne, a professor at Loughborough University in England, says: “Lack of sleep in women is strongly associated with high levels of stress, as well as feelings of insecurity, depression and anger. Lack of sleep does not affect men in this way.”

So how many hours of sleep are necessary for a person to function healthily and effectively the following day? Eight hours of sleep is ideal, but Professor Horne explains that women should rest a bit longer. He claims that women are strained more during the day by various influences – work, children, household chores, dealing with interpersonal relationships, etc.

While men devote themselves to work unquestioningly during the day and, upon coming home, so to speak switch their brains off, women come home to a “second shift,” resulting in multiple times greater exhaustion. Even if you don’t physically feel it, lack of sleep and too much stress can come back to haunt you in older age.

It’s no wonder that women suffer from neuroses and depression several times more than men. Therefore, they should give their bodies a longer rest.

Emergency mode

Compared to men, women do more things at once, putting their brains into so-called emergency mode. The result is that it takes much longer for their brain to get back into normal mode after the daily rush.

And the best way to achieve that is during a long, quality sleep.

Each woman should answer for herself the question of when she should go to bed. The recommended sleep time for women is at least eight and a half hours. So if on a typical workday you get up at six in the morning, you should go to bed around half past nine. Does that sound impossible? It’s all just a matter of priorities. Don’t forget that it’s about your health.

Your skin will also reward you, as will your nervous and digestive systems.

Even if men have time-demanding jobs, their bodies are still better able to cope with lack of sleep than women’s. Don’t neglect your sleep and keep your health and well-being in mind.
