When it comes to hair care, this oil is quite often overlooked. Yet its effects are exceedingly remarkable compared to other substances.

The reason is probably its very thick and sticky consistency, which makes it difficult to apply.

However, if you are looking for a cheap and natural solution for multiple skin and hair problems — such as thin, brittle, or slow-growing hair, eyelashes or eyebrows — you won’t find anything better than castor oil.

How I restored my eyebrows with castor oil

Recently I encountered castor oil for the first time as a remedy to restore plucked eyebrows.

In the 90s it was fashionable to pluck eyebrows into a pencil-thin line. After undergoing that procedure, however, my eyebrows never fully regenerated.

When that trend died down over time, I had to fill in the missing sections with a pencil. I really missed their original, natural look.

While searching for a solution I came across a recipe using castor oil and decided to try it.

I got hexane-free, cold-pressed, organic castor oil. I then began applying it to my eyebrows every night after washing my face.

After about 3 months I noticed that the eyebrow hairs were noticeably thicker (and their color also appeared somewhat darker).

How does castor oil work?

I’m not the only one for whom this worked this way. ‘

So what does castor oil actually owe its effects on hair growth to — both on the scalp and on two other important areas: the eyebrows and eyelashes?

Castor oil has a high content of ricinoleic acid. This acid is a very effective natural antibacterial and antifungal agent. It therefore destroys all fungi and bacteria that could hinder hair growth in the skin.

Besides that, because it is a very stiff and viscous oil, it simply coats the hair roots and prevents hair loss.

Castor oil also contains a large amount of omega-9 fatty acid.

It richly nourishes the hair roots and the surrounding skin. This oil can penetrate deeply into the skin, nourishing it not only on the surface but also in the deeper layers.

Castor oil for hair shine
Castor oil also has a high shine that it transfers to the hair.

So if you are just looking for a way to beautify your hair, it’s enough to apply it to the ends, not to the roots.

Simply put only 2 drops of oil on your palms, rub them well, and then apply to the hair ends.

If you use too much oil, there’s a dividing line between a nice shine and greasiness. So go slowly until you estimate the ideal amount for you.

Castor oil to support scalp hair growth

If you are interested in promoting hair growth, use castor oil to treat the scalp.

Direct application to the skin, however, can be somewhat problematic, so it is recommended to mix it before application with a less viscous oil.

Use, for example, melted coconut oil, apricot kernel oil, or another lighter oil for easier spreading.

However, if you only want to achieve thicker hair along the hairline, you can apply castor oil directly.

Castor oil for scar reduction
Many people report great effects of castor oil in removing scars and other skin lesions with hardened skin.

This is mainly due to its ability to penetrate deeply into the skin.

Since it significantly softens the skin, it is believed that this softening helps reduce scar tissue.

Another of its properties is stimulation of white blood cells, which fight infections.

This reduces inflammatory processes in the subcutaneous tissue, which is also why it contributes to faster scar reduction.

Castor oil for lips
One of the great properties of castor oil is its excellent effects on the lips.

Its content of fatty acids not only smooths the lips, but also protects them thanks to its thick and non-transferable nature.

In other words, it doesn’t rub off from the lips without being completely removed. In addition, it gives the lips a nice shine, so it serves both their health and beauty.

Conclusion

Alternatively, you can look in your local health food or organic grocery stores. However, make sure that the oil is organic and cold-pressed.
