President Miloš Zeman is convinced that the Czech borders should remain closed for a year. He thus softened the words of Deputy Minister of Health Roman Prymula about two years of “being sealed off”.

Zeman said this on Frekvence 1. At the same time he does not rule out vetoing the proposed state budget deficit, which is climbing to 300 billion.

Miloš Zeman commented again on the coronavirus crisis, on Frekvence 1 he spoke about closing the Czech borders.

„I hold the view that the borders should be closed for a year, not two years,” the president declared. According to Zeman, people should enjoy the beauties of the Czech countryside this year and not needlessly risk traveling abroad.

Epidemiologist Roman Prymula spoke about a two-year closure of the borders a month ago.

„We will have to be sealed off. The situation in other European countries will not be good. These will be months and long months,” he said in mid-March.

This week he changed that in the summer it might be possible to travel to Croatia or Slovakia. He was criticized for frequent changes in his views by Deputy Prime Minister and head of the crisis staff Jan Hamáček (for ČSSD). Zeman also changed that he would “scare” Schillerová — he said he will talk with Finance Minister Alena Schillerová (for ANO) about the deficit budget. It is to climb from the originally intended 200 billion to 300 billion crowns.

“I could threaten that I will veto it, but I will not do it. But there should be savings. We throw away 30 billion every year on solar power plants. I will ask whether right now this nonsensical expense shouldn’t be cut from the budget,“ the president said.
