During the coronavirus pandemic, masks are an inseparable part of our lives. We must wear them everywhere and almost during every activity outside the home.

That breathing under them is not completely easy is no secret, and with the summer months it would be even more demanding. But the conditions for wearing masks may change in a few weeks.

The government order is clear – for several weeks Czechs have had to wear masks that prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

It has already claimed more than 170 thousand lives worldwide. But temperatures are rising and wearing a mask is starting to become demanding for many, mainly due to more difficult breathing. Therefore, questions are increasing about when it will be possible to take them off. An epidemiologist provided the answer. If the epidemiological situation does not worsen, there will be the possibility to take off the mask in summer under certain conditions.

„We realize that it will be fairly demanding in the summer. We are therefore considering that the measure in June could be differentiated into conditions when wearing a mask will be mandatory – for example in indoor spaces. But outdoors only under certain circumstances – for example, when a person goes alone or with family members, they will not have to wear it. But if they approach some strangers, then they should put it on,“ the epidemiologist said.

Risk and assumptions

Changes the epidemiologist mentioned can only be discussed if the epidemic curve does not begin to develop in an undesirable direction. And there will still be places where you will definitely have to keep your mask on. „Of course we assume that in riskier operations – such as hairdressers and others where there is close contact – it will be necessary to wear masks for a long time,“ the epidemiologist added.

During May, epidemiologists plan to evaluate the individual waves of easing protective measures, which are now scheduled with mutual two-week intervals. Even now, under certain conditions, runners or cyclists can take off the mask, but they must maintain a distance of at least 2 meters from other people while doing so.

A complete removal of masks is not planned

If anyone hoped that Czechs would completely stop wearing masks in the near future, they were most likely mistaken. In an interview with Seznam Zprávy, epidemiologist Roman Prymula earlier stated that the wearing of masks is precisely what enables the easing of measures in other areas of life and the functioning of the economy.
