On the social network Facebook on a page devoted to women’s confessions the latest post appeared in which its author tries to point out how difficult the job of a shop assistant is, who, according to her, has recently been flooded by a huge wave of criticism from customers.
In a lengthy status an unnamed Czech woman points to all the disadvantages that employees of retail chains allegedly have to go through and of which shoppers have no idea.
A Slovak woman described the course of her working days on the women’s confessions page on Facebook. She hopes that after this customers will treat shop workers with more respect.
,, Every day I read on social networks complaints about various retail chains … Kaufland, Tesco, Billa etc etc.
So not so much about the chains as about the shop assistants, stockers, butchers etc etc.
I also work in a shop (I’ll remain unnamed). Every day I go to work convinced that I will do my job as best as I can. According to the new rules we employees may come to work ONE HOUR BEFORE OPENING.
In an hour we have to manage – unpack, check, reprice the vegetables.- check: salads, cheese, salami, hams, meat, frankfurters, smoked meats, reprice, unpack, cut.
What happened?
The same with frozen foods, drinks, drugstore items and a lot more. And all that in one hour. Of course many of us endure this pressure very poorly. You can feel the tension at the workplace. You can feel the bad atmosphere. We rush around like idiots!
Well in the end when the gates of our store open we stand ready at our departments (beside that we are still trying to finish what couldn’t be done in that hour), the author of the post begins her complaint.
,, The first customers arrive. Of course a thousand kinds of cheese but he gets upset that exactly that one isn’t there. So I try and run to cut it for him. I come back to him, “no thanks I don’t want it anymore, it took you too long”. I point out – open, cut, bring, +- 10 minutes. Really?! Never mind the day is only just beginning, maybe someone will appreciate our effort.
We all already know that THURSDAY, FRIDAY, SATURDAY we leave our souls at work. From morning to evening a jam-packed store. At the counter, the meat department can have 30 customers waiting to be served at once. There are three of us, one goes on break – those hateful looks at us as if how dare one of us go on a break.
Dear sirs … Ahem so customers WE ARE ALSO PEOPLE – WE are thirsty, hungry, tired, our feet hurt and yes we also go to the restroom, “she continues her story.

,, Okay so I’m left there alone in the department salamis, hams, sausages, cheeses, salads, cold cuts … Yes I fly around there like a rag, I don’t follow what’s going on around me, So sorry that I DIDN’T notice that it was YOUR TURN! Just tell me politely! You don’t have to shout! And when you do shout at me I come over to you so you can ask whether you rushed to the pharmacy or whether you haven’t chosen yet! Like why the scene??? Whereupon I go to the store (which I know is always packed those three days) when I don’t have time??? This goes on for 8 hours straight.
Break time comes. After leaving my department for the staff room I’m stopped by another 30 people, and when I can’t answer their question they act like I’m clueless and don’t know everything that’s in our store hmmmmm. Even a doctor doesn’t master all the operations and diseases in the world.
I sit down on my break, light a cigarette, and the only thing we can do is sit and enjoy the silence, “she added.
How it works
,, In the evening our announcements ask shoppers to start heading to the checkout, we close in half an hour. NO! IT’S 20:50 SO I STILL have to go BUY CHEESE (of course the one that’s already gone and I’ve already washed the machines) I politely apologize and wish them a nice rest of the evening, of course for my polite behavior I get yelled at, in the worst case I also get some “title” like “bi*ch, crazy woman, f**k off” and similar! “And so on.
Finally!!! It’s the end!!! The gates have closed, still quickly tidy everything, wash, process, replace, clean AND GO HOME. For many the last day, for others only the first. Well we already feel like tomorrow probably won’t even come, “she concluded.
