What basil can do
Basil (lat. Ocimum basilicum) truly has a remarkably wide range of uses in the treatment and prevention of various diseases.
It contains a very large amount of beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A. This mainly influences the prevention of cholesterol oxidation and thus protects the heart and blood vessels from clogging.
Besides that, regular consumption of basil prevents rheumatoid arthritis (joint pain), asthma, and osteoarthritis.

According to scientific studies, basil significantly strengthens the immune system.
It also has very strong antiseptic and antibiotic properties. It effectively neutralizes many pathogenic bacteria, even those that have meanwhile developed resistance to antibiotics.

Basil contains a lot of vitamin B6 and magnesium. These are two substances important for preventing heart attacks and strengthening the cardiovascular system.
Vitamin B6 prevents the accumulation of harmful substances, such as the feared homocysteine.
Moreover, the compounds found in basil significantly reduce the risk of arrhythmia and excellently relax muscles.
How to cook basil properly
Basil is an important ingredient in many dishes around the world because it pairs well with many types of dishes.
However, basil should be added to food only at the very end to preserve its flavor and nutritional composition.
To obtain the most pronounced flavor, it is advisable to use fresh basil in dishes.
Basil tea
Basil tea is also very healthy and tasty.
To prepare it, take a few basil leaves and cut them into smaller pieces.
Then put them into a glass, pour boiling water over them, cover the glass with a lid, and let steep for 8 minutes.
Finally, strain the tea and enjoy it in small sips!
Basil and iced drinks
Basil can also be used to prepare a variety of cold beverages.
Chop the leaves into small pieces and mix them with fresh lemon juice. Then add water, cane sugar and mix everything well.
Add a few ice cubes and you have a refreshing drink for hot summer days that is also extremely healthy!
Basil pesto
Probably the most popular use of basil is basil pesto.
For its preparation you will need these ingredients:
- finely chopped basil
- crushed peanuts or pine nuts
- grated Parmesan
- garlic
- olive oil
Blend all ingredients in a blender into a smooth paste.
Basil pesto is served with rice, pasta, or grilled meat and vegetables on skewers.
