It can be grown at home, but you can also get it in a pharmacy or grocery store. Sage is mainly associated with relief for a sore throat, but its uses are much broader and more creative.
It smells wonderful, its leaves can reach impressive sizes and on top of that they are a true miracle for the human body. It pays to grow sage or at least have it purchased in tea form. However, the best is fresh sage, which you can use in various ways. Not only when you’re troubled by a sore throat or cough, but also for your beauty, a bacteria-free home and healthy recipes that won’t burden your stomach.
What does sage treat?

Remedy for choking cough – sage compress
You will need a clean linen cloth, or an old white cotton T-shirt washed in clean water. Place slices of real butter on the fabric, preferably organic, and sage leaves.
Lie on your back and place the compress on your chest as close to your throat as possible. Wrap yourself in a warm blanket and let the butter melt, ideally overnight. The compress will alleviate the choking cough.
Remedy for an inflamed throat
If you are troubled by an inflamed throat, compresses made from sage decoction, which you can also gargle, will help. Pour two teaspoons of dried sage with half a liter of water and let it stand for three minutes. Then strain the mixture and soak a linen cloth in the decoction. Apply it to the neck and wrap with a scarf. Leave it on while it is warm. If you feel cold, remove the compress.
Make effective home remedies from sage
1. Healing oil
Infuse dried herbs in olive or jojoba oil for three to six weeks. You can then use it for gargling when your throat hurts, or as a massage oil for aches.
2. Delicious tea
A few – six are recommended – sage leaves pour over with boiling water and let infuse. You can drink the delicious tea, but also gargle with it for throat pain. Thanks to its antiseptic and antibacterial properties it will bring relief. For a better effect add a little vinegar and honey; such a gargle will help loosen phlegm. Sage also helps with toothache; swish cooled tea in your mouth. However, it is recommended to drink it preventively to strengthen immunity and to reduce sweating. If you drink it long-term, don’t forget to take an optimal two-week break from it. Too much of anything is harmful, so don’t overdo sage.
3. Miracle tincture
Chop sage leaves and pour pharmacy-grade spirit or vodka over them in a jar. Store in a dark place for up to three weeks and don’t forget to shake the bottle from time to time. You can use the tincture as first aid for rashes, sweating, and even as a mouthwash.
4. Fresh scent
Add a few drops of sage oil to a diffuser or evaporator. The calming scent of the herb will improve your mood, give you energy and enhance cognitive functions. Inhaling sage scent is especially recommended for people with Alzheimer’s, as it positively affects memory and attention.
5. Fragrant deodorant
If you’re afraid of toxins, rely on herbs. Sage reduces sweating; a deodorant made from it will not only refresh your skin but also scent it beautifully.
6. Natural inhaler
If you are troubled by phlegm and irritated bronchi, inhale sage. You need a tablespoon of dried sage or a few fresh leaves, bring them to a boil in water with a few drops of sage oil. Then pour it all into a container, lean over it and cover your head with a towel. Inhaling the vapors will bring you relief.
7. Cleaning solution
You don’t need chemicals to clean your home. Sage will serve you well too, but only its fresh, not dried, leaves. Mix them with two cups of white vinegar and let sit in a bottle for up to two weeks. Then mix the liquid with water in a spray bottle.
8. Elixir of youth
Rinsing hair with sage will help cover gray hair, give it shine and darker coloring. Tear fresh sage leaves into small pieces, pour boiling water over them and let steep for at least 15 minutes. Add a quarter cup of apple cider vinegar. Use the rinse after shampooing. To achieve the desired effect, rinse a few times in a row and several times a week.

10 Herbal butter
Sage is a fantastic culinary herb that will open new horizons when preparing dishes. You can make tasty and healthy butter from it. For this recipe you need to heat oil with butter and add sage leaves to it. Then let them dry on baking paper and mix into softened butter. You can season with lemon juice and pepper or pressed garlic and salt.
11. Healthy chips
Coat large fresh sage leaves in egg white and fry in a heated pan with a little oil. You wouldn’t believe what a tasty snack this makes. If there are many leaves, they may join into one large piece while frying, which is not a problem.
