Not for people, however, but for our garden. This completely ordinary item has several uses in the garden that we’d like to tell you about right now.
Planting in the garden
Bed preparation for sowing is a careful and responsible job for every gardener, because seed germination depends on quality preparation. Gardeners often want the future beds to be neat, precisely divided and, above all, to not require a lot of work.
When the soil is prepared for sowing, it’s time to make holes for the future seeds. And what a pleasure for the gardener if you can save some time and make a dozen holes in one go. For this simple trick you’ll perfectly use egg cartons.
All ingenious things are simple. So you don’t spend much time digging holes, take an egg carton, press it into the ground and squeeze so that there are holes in the soil. Repeat this trick and move along the entire length.
All that’s left is to wait for the first shoots! It seems you won’t find an easier way to prepare beds for sowing.
But that’s not the only way to use ordinary egg cartons! We offer you several simple but useful uses of egg cartons that will be handy for the garden.
THE SECOND LIFE OF EGG CARTONS
Seedling container
Egg trays – an ideal place for seedlings. Seedlings do very well in these containers and when the time comes to put them into the soil, you can take them with the cartons and insert them into the ground. No root damage and the seedlings grow like crazy. You no longer have to worry about any mulching.
No problem with weeds, planting and the plants will thrive
Perfect for growing radishes, but also for flowers and other crops
We’ll share a great trick on how to get a radish harvest completely without effort — no weeding or mulching is necessary, just plant the radishes in an egg carton.
Put a little soil into the cartons, the radish seeds and simply place them into the ground . Besides radishes you can also try growing lettuce or, for example, bulb plants. Plus, you don’t have to worry about correct planting distance either — the carton with holes is perfect for that.
How to make compost
Egg cartons are suitable for making the compost needed for the garden. Properly prepared compost, as is known, improves soil fertility, improves its structure and helps restore the soil’s vitality.
Bird feeder
If you are one of those volunteers who feed birds in the harsh winter months, when it’s not so easy to find food, then egg trays will certainly be useful for you. Cardboard, twine and treats – the birds are fed, and you’ve done a good deed.
