Good day, I want to share my experience from last week with cleaning the sofa at our cottage. Even when we bought it it was second-hand, but after all the family events and my kids’ antics it looked literally awful. I thought we’d throw it away, but luckily I have a great mother-in-law who advised me how to clean it. I promised her that if it worked, I would post it online – so here you have proof! 😀
To begin my experience – for routine cleaning of fabric sofas I’ve found plain water works best, in which you dissolve a little ordinary washing powder. I don’t buy any special products; I’ve been cleaning my sofa at home like this for years and it is still flawless.
However, that wasn’t enough for the stains on the cottage sofa and we used this homemade concoction. To make it we need:
½ cup of vinegar
½ cup of liquid soap
½ cup of 9% vinegar
1/2 cup of sparkling water
How to do it?
We just mix everything and put it into a spray bottle. We sprayed it thoroughly over the entire surface and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Then, as usual – with circular motions we cleaned the surface with a soft brush. Finally just rinse with a sponge soaked in warm water. I couldn’t wait for the result, so I sped up drying with a hairdryer; the result really surprised me. For now we’re definitely not buying a new couch. I want to point out, however, that if you have a dark-colored couch, you’d better try it on a small area first to see how the cleaning will work – I have tested it on a light shade.
Trick to revive the color that also cleans!
For color revival we recommend wiping the sofa with a cloth soaked in water with a little vinegar. Besides cleaning stains, the fabric will gain a brighter, newer look.
