Gooseberry has a beneficial effect on the function of the liver, heart and kidneys, prevents stomach diseases and cancers of the digestive tract. Our grandmothers  made gooseberry syrup that helped against fevers, colds, inflammation and viruses. In extreme heat it has been shown that gooseberries can help the body cool down quickly, and thus sometimes reduce a life‑threatening condition. Because it has such significant effects, gooseberries should not be overused. In addition, they contain citric acid, tartaric acid and fructose, pectin, niacin, potassium, phosphorus and calcium, which results in exceptional cell protection and increased immunity. Pectin not only stimulates intestinal function but also reduces high cholesterol. Last but not least, they also provide significant protection against cancer, especially due to their high antioxidant content.

The grower recommended a simple trick to increase the sweetness of small fruits such as currants, gooseberries or raspberries. This method also promotes new shoots that will be stronger and produce more this year. All you need is ordinary potato starch. It is the dressing of this common ingredient that makes the fruit sweeter and will also increase your yield this year.

Video tutorial how to do it?

  1. All you need is 1 pack. of potato starch (the video uses a 450 g package) and a bucket of water.
  2. Simply pour the starch into the water and stir well.
  3. Some of the starch will remain settled at the bottom of the bucket, that is fine.
  4. Use it to water the bushes. Repeat the dressing 3-4 times per season, but only until mid‑August. Otherwise there would be unnecessarily many young shoots on the plant. Apply about 1-2 liters of this nourishment per bush.
