Summer is one of the most popular seasons, especially because we spend most of our time outside and the long sunny days literally demand summer barbecues, goulash parties or sitting with friends. Unfortunately, mosquitoes also love all these occasions and their buzzing and biting can ruin any enjoyment. If you don’t want to use expensive, chemical and often effective Malko repellents from the store, you will surely like this tip from Majka.

Tested tip on how to get rid of mosquitoes

I read about this idea 2 years ago and because mosquitoes were literally eating us alive in the summer, I decided to try it. All winter I carefully saved leftover coffee grounds and dried them so I could try this trick on our terrace in the summer.

Mosquitoes have many olfactory receptors that they use to seek (“scent”) blood sources. Because of that they are more sensitive to certain smells — for example smoke and specific odors. The best way to protect yourself from unpleasant insects is therefore to ignite dried coffee grounds that have been mixed with dried, crushed bay leaf. First, it emits a strong scent. Second, it produces smoke.

If you decide to sit outside, on an open terrace or on a balcony, simply place the dry coffee grounds with bay leaf on aluminum foil or a plate and light it.

Such a repellent is completely harmless to humans. By the way, the scent helps get rid not only of mosquitoes but also of flies.
