When growing garlic, as with other crops, it is important to provide proper care. It is very necessary to regularly aerate and weed the soil . During dry days it is necessary to water the soil so that the garlic has a constant supply of nutrients . Garlic requires fertilization during growth and you should always fertilize after sunset.
How to easily grow authentic Czech garlic ?
– When the first leaves of the garlic poke out of the ground, give the plants a nitrogen-containing fertilizer . Dissolve 1 tablespoon of urea in 10 liters of water and apply it to the rows. I apply 7-10 l per square meter.
– To prevent the green parts of the garlic from yellowing, use this spray: for 10 l of water mix in 1 tablespoon of alcohol and 200 ml of milk. Mix everything well, put it into a sprayer and spray the leaves.
– When the garlic leaves reach a height of 10-15 cm, brush the soil away from the bulb and sprinkle with wood ash . Then cover again with soil. Repeat this procedure also when the scape appears (I call it an arrow :-)). Otherwise do not hoe or loosen the soil.
– When the scapes begin to curl spirally, remove them and leave only a few, on those you will see when it’s time to harvest the garlic (it’s better to remove the scapes earlier, before they are fully coiled, so the garlic doesn’t exhaust itself unnecessarily and can devote energy to bulb formation).
– When the heads that were previously coiled begin to straighten and cracks appear on them, it’s time to harvest. Do not let the heads completely fall apart and overdry . At that point garlic tends to rot and is also more susceptible to disease. For non-bolting garlic the best time to harvest is when the leaves begin to yellow and the tops fall over.
Harvest on sunny days and leave the garlic 2-3 days on the row to dry . Then you can transfer it into crates and let it dry indoors.
