Over the years several problems related to the musculoskeletal system may occur – arthritis, joint inflammations, pain and swelling, which are manifestations of various conditions.
Causes can be varied – hormonal changes, sedentary work, wear or inflammatory disease.
Besides the standard treatment recommended by a doctor, however, you can also get rid of very unpleasant swelling and pain, which for some occur only occasionally, for others are a regular part of life.
But if the frequency of swelling and pain increases, you should see a doctor. What can cause swelling?
- Infection
- Formation of varicose veins or blockage of veins
- Complications during pregnancy
- Allergic reaction
- Mechanical injury
- Repetitive movement – sedentary work
- Inadequately treated fractures or muscle problems, for example inflammation
- These home remedies will help you
- First, elevate your feet – first aid
If you’ve been standing, walking or sitting all day, the blood circulation in your legs has been put under a lot of strain.
So it’s best to elevate your feet after a good massage or foot bath.
It’s enough to lie on your back and prop your feet with a pillow. Ideally, however, elevate the legs so they form a right angle with the spine and remain like that for at least 15 minutes.
Young koblihy in alcohol or alpe
Brandy in which you let lavender or ordinary chestnuts or young koblihy steep. We use it for rubbing.
Nettle, dandelion, and burdock
Nettle or dandelion tea is a very good help for swelling and pain. You can also use the herbs in baths or infusions from which poultices are made.
Flush excess water from the body
Excellent are teas from raspberry, blackberry leaves, ordinary cucumber or lemon water. Limit salty foods, as they are partly responsible for sodium accumulation in your body.
Compresses
Soak towels in infusions of parsley, St. John’s wort, or agrimony. Wring them out, wrap them around the legs and let them act. Burdock root also works excellently for compresses.
Ointments
Try plantain, comfrey, calendula, acetate or chestnut lard, which reduce swelling and soothe pain. The recipe for plantain ointment can be found below.
Potato water
If you have been pouring it away until now, you should start saving it. It is full of vitamins and will help reduce swelling. Simply prepare a bath or compress for your feet from it.
Pumpkin seed tea
Crushed seeds prepared as a tea act as a natural diuretic and help flush excessive amounts of water from the body (caused especially by excessive salt intake).
Mix 5 tablespoons of crushed seeds and pour over them 2 liters of boiling water. Return to the flame and boil for 15 minutes.
After cooling, store the tea in the refrigerator and drink it during the day. Melon seeds are of course also very useful raw – however, remember to chew them well so the body can fully absorb everything they contain.
Two methods our grandmothers swore by – they mainly work for swelling caused by inflammation or mechanical injury to the joints
Put 3 tablespoons of salt into a container and pour 4 cups of boiling water over it. Mix until completely dissolved. Wait until the temperature of the water drops to a tolerable level.
Then dip two towels into the water and apply them to the sore limbs. Leave them on for 10 to 15 minutes. If necessary, you can repeat the procedure several times a day.
Cabbage leaf
Cabbage leaves contain glucosinolate, an effective anti-inflammatory agent.
With a fresh, large leaf that has been lightly beaten, cover the painful area, cover with foil and a towel. Leave the wrap on for at least 15 to 20 minutes.
Your joints, bones and muscles will thank you for this old remedy.
A miraculous ointment you can’t buy in stores – it’s amazing for the following:
- varicose veins,
- swollen legs,
- acne and problematic skin,
- eczema,
- burns,
- abrasions, scratches, bruises,
- inflammations, skin ulcers,
- it also has a beneficial effect on joints, muscles and bones.
We need (batch for a whole year):
- 500 g pork fat
- beeswax (about 200-300g)
Plantain leaves (Plantago lanceolata) – the best are leaves of young plantain (we need enough so they are completely covered by the melted fat).
Procedure:
- Melt the fat over a flame and add finely chopped plantain leaves.
- At a temperature of 60 degrees (we can transfer the whole mixture to the oven), let it infuse for 4 hours at this temperature.
- Then let it rest at room temperature until the next day.
- The next day add beeswax to the mixture and melt everything together again; fill the prepared ointment into jars and store in a cool place.
- Use for rubbing and treating the skin.
