Often we don’t even realize that the best things have been right under our noses all along and what’s best – completely free.
Nourishment for houseplants
This nourishment was recommended to me by my neighbor; I had no reason not to trust her, because I have admired her flowers for years – whether indoor or balcony plants, hers are by far the most beautiful. They bloom for a long time and last for years, which, for example, could not be said of my orchids, which often did not bloom again after flowering.
I am therefore happy to know this cheap trick to give them and other houseplants strength, energy and proper nutrition. They will reward you with beautiful blooms, as well as healthy and sturdy green leaves.
Magical water for orchids and other houseplants
It’s nothing other than ordinary water after soaking rice. The water that many of us pour down the drain is full of vitamins and nutrients that plants need especially during flowering and growth. Rice water contains a variety of substances that we find in commercial fertilizers for plants. It contains B-group vitamins (especially B1 and B2), “NPK” elements (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium), starches, fats, carbohydrates, as well as complex nutrients that the plant converts into energy, strength and resistance to pests. You can safely store the water in the refrigerator and use it whenever you need it. Water orchids and other plants once every 15-20 days. However, never water with cold water; it is necessary that the water be at room temperature!
Preparation is simple – just soak the rice in water, let it steep for a while and then strain it.
The secret of beautiful hair
The secret of Asian women’s beautiful hair lies in ordinary rice water. Rinse half a cup of uncooked rice thoroughly and pour it into a bowl. Cover it with 2-3 cups of water and let it soak for 30 minutes. Then strain the water into another container and use it to rinse your hair.
Fermentation – according to research, water prepared this way has more antioxidants, so it should better fight damage to hair and skin cells. Proceed the same way as when soaking, but before straining let it stand at room temperature and ferment for at least 2 days. Only then strain it and use it.
A miracle for garden plants
Rice water is one of the best bio-fertilizers for your garden. And you don’t need to do anything special with it – just collect it when rinsing rice and then use it to water plants in your garden.
The real advantage is that you don’t need much rice water and you don’t need it often. On the contrary, its effects are so pronounced that the rule “less is more” applies. It is recommended to water with rice water 1-2 times a week and only during the season. Out of season, when plants are resting, rice water would stimulate them unnecessarily and they wouldn’t rest. Rice water is a miracle for plants mainly in small doses. As a reward, the plants will quickly flourish, the flowering and fruit ripening processes will speed up, and the plants will receive a real vitamin boost.
At home
Rice water absorbs odors and gives surfaces a special shine – try wiping a sink with it or use it to clean plastic containers that retain smells. In Japan and China rice water is also used to wipe glass surfaces; it gives them a streak-free shine, and the starch also helps keep windows in excellent condition for a long time.
