There is nothing better than fresh fruit and vegetables from your own garden. If you store your harvest properly, you can use it until it runs out, even up to the next harvest. You just need to know how.

Today we’ll therefore talk about an ancient method of storing garlic.

It will stay fresh all winter.

Step 1

First, you need to spread the garlic out in a dry, airy place so it can dry well.

Step 2

Peel off the top layer, cut off the stem and the root, so you get clean garlic.

Step 3

Garlic should be sorted into 3 groups.

The ones that have already split and whose cloves are separating cannot be stored, so use them first. Those that have some defects use as the second group, and the ones that are healthy and compact you can store.

Step 4

Take the healthy garlic and hold the remaining root of each bulb over a candle to singe it. This seals it and protects it from the penetration of viral and fungal diseases.

Step 5

Take a dry, sterilized three-liter jar, put one tablespoon of clean dry wood ash on the bottom, and pack garlic heads into the jar up to about halfway.

Sprinkle another tablespoon of ash, shake the jar a little, and fill with garlic up to the top.

Again sprinkle a tablespoon of ash and gently shake the jar.

Step 6

Once you have closed the jar with a lid, leave it in a cool, dry place. This is the best way to store garlic and it will remain fresh the whole time!
