Condensed milk is probably associated with childhood for most of us. It has been sold in tins for years, and although as adults we most often use it in coffee instead of cream, it has more versatile uses. It can also be bought in an unsweetened version and some cookbooks use it, for example, to prepare sauces. Condensed milk is also an indispensable ingredient when making homemade liqueurs, for example eggnog liqueur in the pre-Christmas period. It can even be prepared at home using only butter, whole milk, high-fat whipping cream and sugar.

Condensed milk is not among the completely typical ingredients for making cakes and other baked desserts, but today we will show you that if you are not afraid to use it, you can create a really tasty and original dessert.

What you need to buy before you start baking the cake

To prepare the batter for the cake base you will need

  • 1 can of condensed milk
  • 140 g of good plain flour
  • half a teaspoon of baking soda
  • 100 g butter
  • lemon (half)
  • 2 whole eggs
  • 200 g powdered sugar
  • 400 ml sour cream, and
  •

How to prepare the cake

As you can see, the necessary ingredients are readily available and the process of preparing the base is not complicated.

Start with the butter, which you should melt preferably in a bain-marie and pour into a bowl. To the butter then add the eggs, the condensed milk from the can, the juice of half a lemon and the baking soda. Before you add the flour, sift it well, which will remove any impurities and aerate it so it will be better prepared for baking. Line the pan on which you will bake the base with baking paper and pour half the batter onto it. Stir cocoa into the remaining half and also pour it onto the pan. The less you mix the cocoa, the more marbled the batter will be. Bake at 180 °C for 10 minutes.

In the meantime, stir the sugar into the sour cream and whisk the mixture thoroughly.

Divide the cooled cake base lengthwise into three equal parts. Spread the prepared cream over the top of the bottom layer, place the next layer on top, spread again and finish with the last layer of the base, which you also spread. You can also spread the sides of the cake.

You can of course also decorate the finished cake, for example with almond flakes, chocolate shavings or fruit, depending on your taste and imagination. Let the dessert cool and then it is ready for family or guests.

Enjoy your meal.
