If you belong to the people who have begun to be troubled by very unpleasant peeling of the skin on the hands, this article is for you. This problem has a number of causes and also a varied course, but in any case it is necessary to find an appropriate solution.

Internal causes

As for the causes that bring about this problem, professionally called exfoliation, experts count among the internal ones especially:

  • avitaminosis, that is a complete or noticeable deficiency of one of the essential vitamins
  • certain diseases, or
  • an allergic reaction of the organism to a particular drug or other external factor.

If it is one of these cases, you need to entrust yourself to specialists, because in the event that you are diagnosed with, for example, psoriasis or have eczema, the treatment is usually complex and time-consuming and should be started as soon as possible.

External causes

However, excessive dryness of the skin can also be caused solely by external influences, and these must be ruled out as the cause before a specialist begins actual treatment. Very often the cause of exfoliation is improperly chosen cleansing agents, especially soap, which can be problematic either because of its texture (too coarse) or its composition or a combination of both factors. Some cosmetic products or laundry powders and gels also cause problems. All of this can cause excessive drying of the skin on the hands.

What you can change yourself

If your symptoms are not so severe that you suffer from skin peeling or its cracking and excessive itching, you can yourself contribute to preventing your hand skin from becoming dry.

And because prevention is best, the simplest and most effective remedy is to reduce the exposure of chemicals to your hands as much as possible. Of course, washing dishes, floors and the like is hard to avoid, but simply using gloves consistently during these activities will help protect your hands. You can also look at the cosmetics you have been using and consult a pharmacy about which hypoallergenic preparations they would recommend. If it is cold outside, wear gloves, because cold and especially frost also damages the skin and causes greater sensitivity.

Also focus on your diet, because adjusting it can to a large extent help with your troubles. Nutrition and dermatology experts recommend in particular legumes and nuts, but also green salads and red and yellow vegetables, such as tomatoes and peppers. Cereals are also important.

As for what to use on the surface of dry hands, our ancestors already had excellent experience with sea buckthorn oil, which has a beneficial effect on the skin. You can also mix olive oil and honey and give your hands a regular bath in this mixture. For a hand bath you can also prepare a soak of warm water and salt or lemon juice. After 30 minutes of exposure, moisturize your hands and for greater effect use special cosmetic gloves, which are commonly available. Lie down for another 30 minutes, cover yourself, rest and let your hands absorb everything.

Regarding hygiene, you should treat your hands, especially after washing, with moisturizing creams or oils.

If you have been battling your problems for a longer time, have tried everything possible and nothing helps and the symptoms are instead getting worse, do not hesitate to visit a doctor.
