Most women and many men have a wardrobe full of old sweaters and t-shirts that are no longer in good enough condition to wear in public. Fortunately you don’t have to throw them all away. Give them new life and make yourself a brand-new hat and leg warmers. Autumn is inexorably approaching and warmer accessories will definitely come in handy when the wind picks up and it gets colder.
The full tutorial can be found on the AndreasChoice YouTube channel, which makes these great and practical pieces for herself, family and friends. The process is very simple and you will need almost nothing to make these amazing hats. The only things you need to prepare are:
- an old sweater,
- fabric scissors,
- a glue gun (or glue stick),
- sewing supplies (in case you don’t want to use glue).
Take your scissors and get to it
It’s ideal if the scissors are specifically meant for fabric. Others won’t work well, cutting will take a long time and it certainly won’t help your mood. First, lay the sweater out in front of you and draw a line a few centimeters below where the armpit ends. Cut the sweater there. Then cut it along so that you obtain one long, single piece of fabric. Next wrap it around your head to determine the exact size. Based on that, reduce the fabric to the size that will suit you.
Working with glue or thread
Now fold the fabric so that three identical layers lie on top of each other. On the side that will be the top of the hat, cut out an arch shape. As you probably know, winter hats and so-called beanies are not square at the top. After unfolding you’ll get three little peaks. Apply glue to the side that will be visible and glue the fabric together so that the layers join on both sides.
Do the same at the top. Glue the peaks together in such a way that a visible triangle with a hole in the middle is formed. Glue that as well and join everything together. Let the glue dry and then simply turn the hat inside out and you can start wearing it. If you don’t want to use glue, follow the same procedure but sew the fabric at the sides and the top.
