The liver performs a number of very important functions in the body. It is responsible for many metabolic, storage, filtering, secretory and detoxification tasks that the body cannot function without. Disorders of the liver and its improper function cause very serious health complications. It is therefore necessary to pay attention to it, burden it as little as possible and monitor any signals of its unhealthy functioning. Read how to detect a problem with the liver.
Yellow eyes and skin
This condition should be alarming. If you notice yellowish sclera and yellow tones of your skin, do not hesitate to see a doctor. Liver tests will be a necessity. The yellow color appears in the case of excess bilirubin. Healthy livers naturally eliminate this substance. But if they do not work properly and cannot cope with the excess, it is a signal for immediate resolution of the situation with specialists. Besides yellowing, poor function of this organ can also manifest as unpleasant itching. Abnormalities in bile production and the resulting accumulation of bile acids in liver cells can cause persistent skin itching.
Fatigue and lack of energy
We all know the feeling of fatigue. Especially in today’s rushed times, when a person is under pressure from all sides. Fatigue after physical or mental exertion is of course natural. However, if you are troubled by constant fatigue and lack of energy, it means that something is wrong with your body. The liver may be behind it. Apathy, lack of motivation and withdrawal are all worrying states that can have causes in liver dysfunction.
Loss of body weight
Another sign of improper liver function is loss of appetite. If you literally have to force yourself to eat, that is bad. A healthy appetite is a sign that the body itself tells you what it wants and needs. However, if you have not had an appetite lately and, moreover, are unintentionally losing weight, you should visit a doctor. In addition to weight loss, you may also notice swelling in some areas. Liver dysfunction leads to fluid retention in the body. This causes, for example, a bloated abdomen or swollen legs and ankles.
Dark urine
Dark urine is caused by the same reason as yellowed skin. Again, it is due to excess bilirubin that the liver cannot break down. So if you have noticed dark urine even when drinking a sufficient amount of fluids, it is again a sign that something is wrong with your liver.
