Caring for the skin on your hands isn’t as simple as it might seem at first glance. This is especially true for the winter months, when it tends to dry out more often and the skin on the hands sometimes even cracks, which is unpleasant and can be painful.
A whole range of cosmetic products available both in drugstores and in pharmacies can help us achieve smooth, soft hands despite adverse weather. You may have good experiences with some of them, but in the long term even the manufacturers of the most expensive products do not guarantee success.
Sodium bicarbonate
For the reasons above you can use one unassuming, common item to care for your hands, namely baking soda. It is also known as bicarbonate of soda and chemically it is sodium bicarbonate. The body produces its own bicarbonate in the stomach, and if you have experienced so-called heartburn, it was exactly the condition when the stomach became overly acidic due to a lack of bicarbonate.
Sodium bicarbonate has a wide range of uses, for example
- in baking powder
- as part of products intended for teeth whitening, or
- as a filler in fire extinguishers.
Instructions for preparing an emulsion for hand massage
You can use baking soda to prepare a high-quality and effective homemade emulsion. Add a tablespoon of baking soda and half a tablespoon of granulated sugar to a little olive oil and rub this emulsion into your hands for at least 10 minutes. Then rinse your hands under warm running water. A great advantage of this procedure is that you can repeat it daily and you will notice improvement already after the first hand massage.
A simpler and cheaper recipe for a massage emulsion
You can also prepare a hand massage emulsion using only water and baking soda in a 1:3 ratio. This method is also effective, but the previous recipe ensures greater softness of the skin on the hands, especially thanks to the olive oil.
How baking soda can improve nail quality
If your nails are naturally brittle or become damaged mechanically, give them the care of a healing and soothing tincture that you obtain by mixing equal parts water and equal parts baking soda. The tincture should be massaged into the nails and this process repeated until results are visible. The tincture will clean the nails of dirt and dead skin cells and, with its use, the nails will become healthier, stronger and shinier.
