Are you a bread lover and wouldn’t give up this divine gift? In that case you probably belong to those who shed a tear when they have to throw away old bread because it’s no longer fresh, has hardened, or is even affected by dangerous mold. However, there is a way to keep bread always fresh. You’ll never have to throw away even a slice again, and you’ll be able to enjoy fresh bread anytime. All you need is a freezer where you can store bread for up to 6 months. But how should you properly freeze bread?
Bread from a nylon bag doesn’t taste good
The argument of most people against freezing bread in the freezer is that thawed bread doesn’t taste good. Sometimes it’s even soggy or, conversely, too dry, which is why for many this method of storing bread is disappointing. The problem is often incorrect storage of bakery products in the freezer only in a thin nylon bag, which can cause drying out, or frost can form on the baked goods or stains may appear that completely ruin the loaf. So how should you properly freeze a loaf of bread?
A favorite loaf for breakfast and dinner without having to shop
So how to freeze your favorite bread so you can have a fresh slice for breakfast or dinner? It’s important to slice the bread within 24 hours of removing it from its packaging or bringing it home from the shop. Ideally, bring it fresh from the bakery in the morning and slice it immediately into the desired slices. Then simply take a baking tray, line it with baking paper and neatly lay the slices side by side. There’s no need to cover the slices — this way you’ll get a nice crust. Now put the entire tray into the freezer.
Slice by slice for up to six months
After freezing the baked goods, store the slices individually or in portions in resealable bags and press out as much air as possible before putting them back into the freezer. The bags must be tightly sealed. If you don’t have sturdy resealable bags, you can use airtight containers. Then just take out individual slices as needed and let them thaw. For quicker thawing, you can use a toaster. This way you can keep bread in the freezer for up to 6 months.
