We all know this well – we buy bright white underwear that only makes us happy for a few weeks. After just a few washes it starts to lose its white color and acquires an unpleasant yellowed tint. And washing it in the machine won’t restore its original color. Is there anything you can do about it or must you accept that white laundry is a consumable that you simply have to replace after a few uses?

The trouble with yellowed laundry is a thing of the past thanks to this tip. You’ll easily remove the unsightly discoloration and your laundry will be bright white again like the first day you bought it. What will you need?

Just a few ingredients

  • Plastic basin
  • Hot water
  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon of the laundry detergent you normally use

Pour hot water into the basin and add the rest of the ingredients. Stir everything well so that the detergent, salt and baking soda dissolve properly. The water should be hot, however it should not exceed 60 degrees so as not to damage delicate garments.

In a few minutes it will be like new

Soak the yellowed laundry in this mixture and let it sit for at least 15 minutes. If it’s stubborn dirt or heavy soiling, don’t hesitate to let the laundry sit for up to half an hour. Salt combined with baking soda and detergent gently removes ingrained dirt and lightly whitens your laundry. You don’t need to be afraid to use this mixture even on very delicate pieces made of fine material; it’s a completely safe method that won’t damage your clothes.

A great household helper

Then simply take the laundry out of the water and rinse it thoroughly in warm water. Rinse really well to remove all traces of salt, baking soda and detergent from the fabric, which could irritate your skin. You can repeat whenever necessary. This trick will do just as good a job on other pieces of clothing that are stained with ingrained and old dirt.
