Cough can truly be one of the most unpleasant symptoms of a cold or the flu. It is very difficult to get rid of; it can last several days, and for some people maybe even weeks. Although it may seem like a condition whose purpose is to bother us, it is actually a defensive reflex serving to keep the airways clear. There are different types and each usually requires a different treatment. But we have one natural method for you that effectively banishes any cough naturally without chemicals.
Dry and irritating cough
A dry cough can be triggered by several factors, for example:
- Exposure to allergens
- Chemical factors
- Cigarette smoke
- Dust
- Extremely dry air
It is usually the first symptom of an approaching cold, and medications that suppress the cough are used for it. These are called antitussives and they help with expectoration.
Wet cough
It usually appears with acute bronchitis and pneumonia. During a wet cough, mucus of various colors and consistencies is produced. Expectorants and mucolytics are used for this type of cough. They should be taken no later than 5 p.m. to avoid poor sleep quality. In the case of a wet cough it is recommended to increase fluid intake; try to drink plenty of clean water and herbal teas.
Home remedy for treating a cough
If you decide on a natural treatment for a cough without medicines, it is good to choose the most effective one. It consists of only two ingredients – a cabbage leaf and honey. Prepare one cabbage leaf and ordinary honey. First take the cabbage leaf and dip it for a few minutes in hot water. Then spread a thick layer of honey on it, wrap it and place it into a bag or into cling film. Place this prepared compress on the center of the chest and secure it, for example, with a scarf or bandage. Perform this procedure always before going to bed. In case of a severe cough you can use two compresses – one on the chest and the other on the back. Continue the treatment for 5–7 days and the cough will be gone.
