Have you scheduled a visit for lunch or dinner and don’t want to make ordinary schnitzels for them? You don’t have to. Instead of classic meatballs made from minced meat, you can prepare little baskets of minced meat with creamy cheese. For this perfect and beautiful appetizer you will always receive many compliments and guests will beg you for the recipe.

What will you need?

For preparing the meat baskets you can choose any minced meat you like. Leftovers of chicken, turkey, beef or pork also work great. Thanks to the creamy filling they will always be tender and juicy, so you don’t have to worry about dryness, regardless of the choice of the main ingredient. Prepare about 500 grams of meat, plus 100 ml of milk, 200 g of sour cream, 2 eggs, 70 grams of bread and 150 grams of hard cheese. For seasoning use:

  • salt,
  • freshly ground black pepper,
  • dill.

Method

First, chop the onion into small cubes and mix with the minced meat. Soak the bread in the milk and then transfer it to the bowl with the minced meat and onion. Mix everything well and season with salt and pepper. Place this mixture on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Make balls from the minced meat, put them on the sheet and shape them into little baskets.

Now grate the cheese and the hard-boiled eggs. Add the sour cream and chopped dill to them. Mix well. Fill the baskets with this mixture and bake them in a preheated oven for 35 to 45 minutes at 200°C. After taking them out, check whether the meat is sufficiently cooked through. If so, you can serve it. The baskets should always be served hot.

What to watch out for?

Apart from the correct degree of doneness, the quality of the minced meat is also very important. If you see gray or dark spots, throw it away and choose a different one for the recipe. A change in color means the meat is oxidizing and is too old. Buy only from trusted places where you can rely on the quality. Only then will the dishes be tasty and fresh. Enjoy your meal.
