Diabetes is on the rise. Unfortunately, the number of people with diabetes is increasing year by year. The cause is, with high probability, our unhealthy lifestyle. Excessive consumption of fats and sugars, alcohol, smoking and a sedentary way of working and living. This combination is a breeding ground for many diseases and diabetes is certainly one of them. At first it manifests very subtly. Read about its characteristic symptoms, and check whether it concerns you.
Early diagnosis is the basis of successful treatment
Diabetes is an incurable disease, but if suitable treatment is started in time and the patient adjusts their diet and lifestyle, they can live a full life with diabetes without significant restrictions and health complications. Untreated diabetes, on the other hand, has a huge impact on quality of life and also significantly shortens it.
What are the main symptoms of diabetes
In its early stages diabetes manifests very subtly, and it is no wonder that people do not pay proper attention to the symptoms. Diabetes most commonly presents with:
- An increased feeling of thirst and the urge to urinate – a diabetic is constantly thirsty and goes to the toilet very often. A diabetic’s kidneys do not work properly
- An increased feeling of hunger that does not decrease even after eating – this happens because your body does not produce enough insulin. You cannot use glucose as a source of energy
- Blurred vision – an early symptom of diabetes. Blurred vision is the result of pressure from accumulated fluid on the eye lens
- Increased fatigue – may be a consequence of dehydration
Other common manifestations of diabetes are unexplained weight loss, itchy skin, dark spots on the skin, slow healing and tingling in the hands and feet.
If you have noticed any of the above symptoms on yourself for some time, do not delay visiting a doctor. Only then will you have one hundred percent certainty and be able to start addressing your health condition appropriately.
