If a tumor develops in the brain, it can be very difficult for the person to notice anything. The danger slowly and surely increases, and only then do the initial symptoms appear. As soon as you notice them, you should visit your doctor as soon as possible.
Individual symptoms
Symptoms can be very diverse. Sometimes they resemble symptoms caused by other illnesses, so it’s wise to keep a cool head and not panic if one of the signals listed below appears. Symptoms are also highly dependent on the tumor’s location and size.
Each area of the brain performs a different function. It is therefore understandable that symptoms differ depending on where the tumor is located. As the tumor grows, it affects more areas, thereby worsening the accompanying signs. They may become more frequent or new ones may appear.
Pain and other problems
Common symptoms include headaches, nausea and vomiting, which are not a matter of a few hours or days but tend to be long-lasting. Headaches often occur upon waking and then gradually ease during the day, returning the next morning.
Occasional symptoms
Then there are signals that occur only rarely, but even so can indicate to the patient that they are in a serious condition. These include hearing, vision and speech disorders, mood changes, and problems with concentration and memory. Epileptic problems, seizures, numbness or tingling in the limbs. Although it may not necessarily be a tumor, it is advisable to see a doctor if you experience these difficulties. It could also be another serious illness.
Confusion, drowsiness and slowed movements are not uncommon either. A tumor can block natural processes; fluid may accumulate in the cavities of the brain and, as a result, brain cells can be damaged.
Risk to the brain
The mentioned problems can be extremely dangerous for the brain. Once swelling develops and certain nerves are affected, doctors must intervene as quickly as possible. People can then completely lose the ability to speak or see. Various seizures may also follow.
A seizure can be partial or affect the whole body. A tumor also causes symptoms similar to a stroke.
So if you have been suffering from unbearable headaches for several days, are relying on painkillers to relieve them but the problems persist, do not underestimate the situation. Inform your doctor and check whether it might be a tumor.
